Reeling somewhat this evening. My own health hasn’t been brilliant for a while - all the wierdness from ceasing antihistamines is slowly going but lack of sleep &c takes the edge off most things, then my local mate, Russ, who is now at the palliative care stage with his pancreatic cancer STILL has no fucking hospice or home care sorted, so he’s still stuck in hospital dying as much of boredom as anything - Nottingham and Boston generals are both appallingly fucking useless.

Now the 'phone goes with the news that one of my oldest mates died unexpectedly about a week ago and has only just been found… Early seventies… I’d known Steve nearly 50 years FFS.

This time of life is a hard bastard and no mistake.

Xmas this year is all about seeing if Russ will still be alive to be here, unknown number of guests, unknown food needs, sky falling-in… It’s bashin’ me noggin’ in, but down here I’m putting on as brave a face as I can muster and having a good moan on this forum to vent. There are no answers, and godnose far too many of you have even heavier burdens…

I’m not good at words with this sort of things but :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Feel for you mate. Life can be (and frequently is) a bitch but at least it is still life, so worth celebrating if / while you can :beers:

Still suffering from sciatica. Every time I think I’m close to recovering something triggers it again. haven’t had a full nights sleep for a couple of weeks now. Saw the doc this morning who referred me for an MRI scan. Just been called by the hospital who have me booked in first thing tomorrow morning. :astonished:

Do ask if you can select the music. When I had a MRI scan earlier in the year it was best of Fleetwood Mac, the shit years.

Perhaps something industrial like NIN or Numan.

On a serious note I hope ititss able to help with a diagnosis/solution, and the sciatica doesn’t spoil Christmas.

Have you been to a chiropractor yet ?
I suffer from it and when I feel it flaring up I try and get into the chiropractor. I see him fairly regularly anyway.

Hope it all goes well and they work out what is going on with it Nick :crossed_fingers:

I have been 4 times over the last 2 months but it’s mainly a case of them getting me to do suitable exercises which do work. But the slightest thing can just set it off again. I just feel like I am stuck in some sort of cycle at the moment.

My last MRI was fucking unbearable. I couldn’t believe the noise levels. I didn’t have any music just some what I consider unsuitable ear protection. I’m going to take my own tomorrow and hope they let me use it. They probably won’t.

I worked with Philips scanners so we had Philips ā€œmidiā€ systems, if you take a cd you might strike lucky.

If your own ear defenders have any metal in then they might well worry about that, for obvious reasons. But when noise problems were tough at work we used to combine external ear defenders with the squashable in-ear plugs and they could really help with all but the bass frequencies. The MRI team’s only objection to those might be if the hospital defenders are wired so they can talk to you during the procedure and they don’t want their instructions blocked by plugs you’ve brought with you.

When I had mine done in a Philips machine I had both disposable and over the ear defenders. It was still loud though, and as it was my very first one all a bit of a sensory overload.
