Are they like sandals but made of wax?
they are made of unimaginably beer and piss resistant materials. £19 in Mountain Warehouse
New and tasteless running shoes replacing my knackered Hokas - Nike Epic React Flyknit. Much heel cushioning
I almost bought a pair like that from the Clark’s outlet at Gretna green at the weekend. With the 1/3 off discount card I had on me they’d have been about £40. My wife of hours warned me I would be newly single if I bought them. They look nice though mate. Very hipster
I paid £36 for mine. They really are for running though and not just for wearing with turned up jeans and an ironic Kenny Rogers t-shirt whilst sporting a handle-bar moustache.
I nearly got some for the heel cushioning, but Nike, just too narrow for me.
Yeah Nike are typically erring towards narrow but these are pretty good, just depends where you’re wide though but they won’t suit very wide feet.
Just jogged out for two miles and I like them. Not as ultimate cushioned as Hokas but they’re easy to run in and definitely make you want to go faster. Looked at my splits and was about a minute/ mile faster than I would have thought.
Thats just excitement at doing a split as long as a mile
Middle age gymnast syndrome
Soon as in today. Really happy with the Loake Chesters. Very comfortable.
Will look at On Cloud next time I’m near one of their stockists.
What stage in rehab is your ankle at?
never repair stage. I wear the splint to prevent further rolling. Tweaked it yesterday. Been like this for decades - physio has me doing strengthening and mobility exercises, to keep the inevitable at bay. In my left ankle which is the most problematic, most of my ligaments are badly stretched, one is now unattached.
My right one is much more stable, although I did roll mildly it about three weeks ago.
I was born with a congenital defect in my ankles which meant my Achilles was way too short. This meant I learned to walk strangely, which has damaged some of the structures. I had two surgeries before I was about 12, but if you ask my parents, the prediction from the orthopaedic surgeons was on crutches permanently by about 21, and needing a wheelchair by 40. Having reached 54 with needing neither, by carefully managing how I treat them pleases me, but the propensity to roll my ankles is getting more frequent.
My orthopaedic surgeon, says I will eventually need some reconstructive surgery on my left, and my right might survive without.
I am allowed to swim and cycle. I do wobble board and low balance beam for strength and stability. I do weird shit like putting pillowcases on pillows with my feet to maintain flex. Weight loss has helped, but I need to lose more.
Ah, not rehab, just terminal then! All the strengthening and mobility work in the world isn’t going to sort that mess out. Longer you can avoid surgery the better by the looks of it. Like you say, you’ve done well to avoid that so far.
no it’s not, I am lucky to be reasonably pain free most of time. I am also luck we have a fantastic dept of Physio and Sports Injury clinic at work, so I get looked after by a prof of physio and his students - I dont mind being a coursework
My only regret is not buying these sooner. I’m sure they will look even better and feel even comfier once they’re broken in. I like shoes.
me too, My wife has about 6 pairs, and I have about 60 pairs. Would you like some expert advice on good style in footwear?
Yes please. Do you have Gyroscope’s contact details?
everyone will tell you I am a style guru when comes to footwear.
Step away from the bar Simon and ask the Landlord to open the window. The fumes from the barmaid’s apron have clearly go to you…
