Simple philosophy - enjoy, wallow in, revere, remember and then mourn the extremely rare good moments that the deity of your choice / fate begrudgingly bestows upon you, because there is always a price to pay.
I’m not a headphone lover, never have been, never will be, terrible things.
However, tonight, as an experiment, I plugged my Oppo PM-2’s into my Technics SA-C600 swiss army knife and I was very pleasantly surprised.
Might be something in this headphone shit.
Just got around to fitting the Goldring G1042 and have to say so far it’s bloody brilliant into the EAR834P ![]()

.
1042 is a great bit of kit. I had one on a Michell Syncro / technoarm combo. Really bouncy, juicy sound. Great sense of propulsion and solidity, if possibly not the cleanest top end. But for the money, amazing value and a hugely enjoyable sound. Short of big Money MC, I’m convinced it’s about as good as most people will ever need
Worth remembering that the lugs are not tapped. Good for Mission 774 arms. Their not very squareness can make them tricky to fit. Ran a1040/2for years. Likely I will again.
I’ve had one for ages and have only played about 4 records on it. Once I get a pre amp I’ll give it another try but right now my rasberryPi sounds better ![]()
Looks like it was a good trip to Blackpool!!
Result, those look great.
Oh yes, well worth the 6 hours of road works on the M5/M6 ![]()
Lovely setup ![]()
…And stereo’s just a studio gimmick anyway - who needs it?
Agreed
Are yours 2 ways Paul?
3-ways main system, 2-ways top floor A/V system (one day…).
The 2-ways are the bargain of the bunch, and brilliant all-rounders - hence why I never sold my pair.
Oh I miss the days when speakers that close to a TV would cause visual distortions ![]()
You have been done over, the one on the right is bigger
They look superb - welcome to the club old boy.
Very smart.
