L’arome de l’argent, surely?
If that is a proposal the answer is yes
Any thoughts on this kind of plug in filter Paul?
TL;DR - They work.
Personally, I prefer to put filters in-line, each bit of kit has a filter as close to it on a dedicated power line as possible, and each filter incoporates DC blocking as well.
That works better (IME/IMO), because one of the greatest sources of noise on the mains is your hifi - at least some of it, some of the time, most notably digital and switchmode stuff (tho’ the latter’s improved greatly in the last decade).
One of many issues with this is that it can look a mess, but then cabling &c always looks like shit.
The other is people try and do this kinda thing on the cheap, and especially with DC blocking, cheap = lack-of-current = bad-sound = people saying “DC blockers don’t do anything / sound bad”.
Though I’ve not tried any of it, I like the look (internally) of Puritan Audio’s stuff - it looks no-nonsense-overspecced and designed for oodles of current headroom - it’s also too cheap for what it is*…
*prolly not good for business longevity…
I’ve bought a 156 and very very pleased with it
…Tend to agree, I was looking at the Puritan stuff then a friend suggested these in a way only a friend can: “Stop being a whiny cunt and give them a go” and he sent some.
Reviews appear positive for the Puron ones, so I’m looking at first point on the wall gang and first socket on the block as a starting point. No, I’ve not cut one open so who knows whats in it?
In filter offs (Apparently this is a thing) folks seem to champion the Puron over Ifi / Furutech etc etc? Nicely put together things is all I’ve got so far - Lets see when I plug / electrocute / bask in office flames / have an epiphany etc on Monday
Trust your ears. There are valid technical reasons why stuff like this can improve sound (can, but won’t always), but no technical reasons why anything will sound worse unless the filters are very badly designed or if your personal preferences are severely ‘grandad’s radiogram’…
Most filters strap small capacitative loads across Live and Neutral, and Live and Earth, and that works perfectly well as a separate standalone plug like these Purons, but it also means you can’t use inductive filters, nor DC offset filters, which have to be inline, limiting ultimate performance.
It can also mean that if you use enough of them, and if you also have other filters and a load of surge plugs scattered around the house, that you end-up with enough current leakage that you trip RCDs in your consumer unit. Won’t be an issue for you, but some people get a bit carried-away with mains foo…
Cheers Paul - Thinking about it I’ve got one of your old blocks - so one in the wall and one on the first port of that?
When will these people co-lab with Scalextric ? So much simpatico.
Doesn’t all the music get stuck where the cables go thin at the end.
Like a choke point?
I love how the space the cabling occupies is larger than most listening rooms!
I am filled with shame…
Don’t plug them into the Wychwood block. Try 'em all on their own, get accustomed to what - if anything - their effect is. Leave them wherever you plug them, and try using the Wychwood thingy downstream of wherever they are. Again, give it some time istening to familiar material.
Sometimes differences with this kinda stuff leap out at you, oftentimes not so much.
Roger that
These folk must never drink alcohol. Or coffee or other hypercaffeinated beverages.
I really must watch the matrix again
Trying to keep it really simple and uncluttered so using the AI 300 as the amp under the TV and the Eversolo DMP-A8 as the pre/streamer and tucked away in a little unit.
The little AI300 sounds really good with the Fabers, the AI seconds were outstanding but they should be with 50% more power and push-pull though.
Tidy👍
Pfft, no cable lifting monorail system, what are you, some kind of fucking time wasting amateur?
