Mine was the most unreliable piece of HiFi I ever owned!
The wiims are great
I only rip cds to the laptop and don’t have any use for Spotify tidal or other monthly streaming.
Snell J’s acquired:
Only had chance for a brief listen. The bottom end and overall coherence from the Snell’s is glorious. The Dali’s do have the edge in the top end though with that hybrid tweeter. It’s also at least 8 weeks before I could get the Dalis at the right price.
Unlucky
Js?
Gonna let the apostrophe go…
Super tweeter for a little sparkle up top?
Probably on the sauce, mentioned Es earlier.
Mines become very simple, the speakers you heard many years ago (on the end of a Pure sound A30) and a Naim Uniti Atom.
The speakers would certainly benefit from better amplification and source but budget requires something cheaper and simpler.
It’s easy to operate which makes a big difference now I spend half my day in a wheelchair and most of my days in the house.
Sorry to hear of your health woes Des
Thanks Paul, shit happens, this started 19 years ago when a car pulled out on me and I ended up half in it with the driver. Bike helmet in two pieces, claret everywhere “I’ve killed him” she screams, I fall back out and she drives off!
Three fractured vertebrae (c7, 6 and 5) plus two damaged disc (L5 and 4), dislocated shoulder, chipped hip bone, concussion, eight fractured teeth and multiple minor issues. Spent all the rest of my life battling back issues and pain. 30 months ago the fractured vertebrae pieced two discs and compressed my spinal cord. Surgery or quadriplegia, “surgery please” 18 months recovering to walk 100 metres, but now my lower back and legs spasm and cause a bit of pain so using a wheelchair reduces the pain and reliance on pain meds. It’s all good in the long term and has made me reassess what’s really important.
How are you and the boss doing in your palatial, Lincolnshire manor house?
Speakers are even better now, still look handmade by a blind man but a few internal wadding and throat opening tweaks have made them even more responsive to changes elsewhere
Bloody hell Des!
That is a major life changing accident, very sorry to read this.
I remember your speakers at an old Scalford
(I was Tel on the Wam).
Love those speakers. Remember wanting to take them home with me after visiting you some years back, bought your DDAC that served me well.
Sorry to hear it …I remember those great bake-offs at yours …especially that clutch burning hill …hope life gets better for you …this is a very caring community here on AA …look after yourself Bestest …
Sounds grim Des, hope a decent hifi is at least providing plenty of musical distraction! FWIW, I rate recent generations of Naim kit highly
Lincs is fine, Sam’s thriving in the current job which she loves, and the bulk of the most expensive work on the house is out of the way (well, hopefully… ), now just trying to work-out if we can afford to actually live here!
Hifi’s changed a lot since the business went tits-up a few years back, and if the useless twats I’m dealing with ever sort their shit out, the speakers will change again soon…
So yeah, madness reigns, as ever…
Did they find the driver?
Yes, she worked for the police (it was a funny junction that led to a police compound and has since been changed). She managed to get several “statements” from people who witnessed it that claimed I was speeding, on a full suspension mountain bike on a flat road. I tried to take it further but got nowhere.
She did get a warning for leaving the scene of an accident though
It’s not been great, especially the last two and a half years, but you’ve just got to crack on. I’m currently tackling the DWP who decided I was fit for work and was due £28.50 a week, I’ve been told there’s a 90% chance they’ll cave the morning we’re due in court. I was offered a zoom court meeting but said no, I’ll turn up in a wheelchair, fall out of it, crawl along the floor until someone helps and then see what the court says
