SOYS: State Of Your System

I only killed a Benz micro gold (superb btw) and a dv20x

Agreed, confident thrusting is required

I have tried a couple, one that Bob lent me was a threshold power and I owned a pair of pass stereo monos but neither were a patch on the premier 350 CJ I have

Will scratch the valve itch one day but pretty happy

Finally got round to resetting up my system and trying the Audiosector DAC with my open baffle speakers for the first time. Had an enjoyable evening listening at home and
quite happy now that I didn’t sell them.

One of the very best power amps I’ve heard :+1:

I still think about building floor to ceiling OB speakers like that for the corners of our room.

Have you still got your ribbon HF drivers?

This chap posts videos on the subject of OBs

Yes I still have them and also a pair of Dayton AMT pros as well.
Lopwell 4 this year really got my audio juices flowing again.
I am currently wondering if I could easily slot a radial mid horn into my OB but I haven’t found much info yet - paging Adam

Noted for future reference! :+1:

Seriously thinking about this to match with my new Pass XA30.8… but Emporium :scream: :see_no_evil:

Matches the Pass aesthetics nicely

There was a nice CJ pre listed privately on Wigwam.

Shouldn’t you be shovelling shit out of the basement ready for new speakers.

Not Norfolk though… :person_shrugging:

Looked at that in passing - too much to go wrong, Cary doesn’t have an outstanding rep for reliability either, but as for Emporium, while the usual caveats apply, I found them helpful and very willing to haggle.

The Audio Note M5-in-an-M2 box they have - FWIW, I think it’s genuine, right down to the wooden PCB - it’s a typically ANUK lashup to a customer request, and all the parts are genuine and correct for the spec level. Very tempted, but too spendy for me - they’ve had it AGES cos no-one trusts it, so a big discount should be do-able…

I think it was a£10k amp when released and they didn’t make that many but they still fetch half retail twenty something years later so tells you a little about how good it is

One of the reviewers in the hifi mags raved about the 350 being the best anc lived it so much he bought one

I think that was Martin Colloms. He used it as a reference for about 6 years.
I had one as well.
Very nice amp, and no real reason to have sold it.
And I sold it very cheap.

I’d really like to hear a pair of the trio 15’s and the Quartet 15’s.

Bloody hell out the frying pan and into the fire, don’t buy the Cary but maybe go for something that badgers have lashed together after dark

It’s academic anyway as my ears aren’t as enchanted with AN/ Kondo stuff as others seem to be :man_shrugging:

What would the cutoff of the radial horn be? 800Hz? Does your open baffle play nicely that high?

This is why the 2" compression drivers make good sense, they nicely cover the range without having to stretch a big driver too high.
