SOYS: State Of Your System

Wasn’t it mentioned the amps could be adjusted?

Might have been other amps though, I’m not 100% sure.

I need to hear it for myself and then decide which route to go. Certainly has some excellent user feedback but ears vary etc.

There are the Icon preamps, also using DS transformers but is in the UK and cheaper.

Current version of the K10 is north of 30k now. there are several in the UK, they come up from time to time in Europe at around this price, if there’s one advertised at £8k grab it though be wary that’s a very low price. RK is pretty established in it’s market now and s/h don’t usually hang around long.

Special Pre, may not dig as deep as a K15 but precious little comes close in an active pre if you can live with it’s compromises. Would like to try an EMIA, believe DS was pretty happy in the past to home dem in the US, not sure if that extends to Europe

Beyond the lack of remote, what might these be?

Limited number of inputs particularly XLR and the graduation/gain of the volume control can be problematic in some systems. Never a problem when I tried it but I did hear some comments. Volume control is a work of art but the steps in attenuation aren’t as fine as some may like. Addressed in the K15 which is more of the same

Adequate.

The thing I love about that photo is the absence of scale. Sure, it’s probably a volume control but it could also be a laser designed to punch a hole in the fabric of spacetime, shot from 100 metres away.

Monoblocks are only 220kg… each

Didn’t think I would ever say this but fuck me that’s even uglier than Chord stuff.

It’s weird to see someone channelling the original diver’s helmet aesthetic in hifi.

Tribute also do good autoformers and they are cheaper and closer to UK think i read somewhere that Thomas Mayer use his transformers in his amps.

Finally I have got my vinyl set up back up and running after clumsily damaging the phono stage and arm wiring - probably two years ago so many thanks @murrayjohnson. It’s now temporarily set up in the spare room. The 300B valve amp spluttered for a little while but seems to have settled hum is minimal and the deck just need a dust - No adjustments were needed to the arm tracking - It seems to be tracking well but I do not have a stylus balance at the moment. Colour me in pleased.

New speaker leads needed and a wiring tidy up to finish
