At least wait until I’ve detailed the rest of my system “foo!” :grinning:

Remember a bloke on the wam who bought some £4k bookshelves speakers, and his Mrs made him sell them as his wife wasn’t happy with the wood colour as they didn’t match the skirting boards.

I hope the took the correct path: Huge horns & divorce.

Your room looks familiar. I have a feeling I may have possibly bought a Karan KAL ref preamp from you a few years ago?

What unfortunate behemoths donated their scrota to decorate your speakers?

Oh, yes - nice system, very nice :+1:

When’s the bakeoff?

…it all looks a bit clean to me…

Good to know. At least my memory is still functioning. I really liked that pre but ultimately I returned to valves.

Simply stunning speakers, heard them at the Windsor show and I was blown away had to get a pair.I tried countless amps with them but never was 100% happy with them at home.
Guess I just didn’t have the amplifier budget to do them justice.

Please confirm what fuses you are using?

Are they a particularly difficult load?

They sound mighty fine!

They do seem to be particularly demanding of amplifiers with high current delivery! The 86db efficiency and 4 Ohm nominal load comes into play here and for a while, I thought TAD’s own M2500 MKII power amp might be the answer, so I bought one, on spec, for a really good deal in 2021.

Technically, It was a very good amplifier - 500 watts into 4 Ohms with a genuine doubling of power, as the impedance halved. High current delivery was also in its arsenal.

Listening to music played on that system, I was struck by all the TAD amp’s excellent qualities - whisper quiet, deep bass, great transients, but something was lacking ! For me, it lacked the emotional connection I had with my previous Conrad Johnson combo. I even “borrowed” a second TAD M2500 MKII and beamed them with my CR1’s to see if that improved things. The bi-amping experiment was interesting, but ultimately proved to be a “cul-de-sac” moment and I decided to move it on, getting back what I paid for it!
