Agree with all that.
I just love my Parker Rollerball…
It’s a lovely thing to write with. This one was my 55th birthday gift from a mate.

From what I can gauge from this thread. Engorged fountain pen users who opt for green ink have solved life’s riddle.
Yes and we’ve not even started on those tarts who use shimmer ink - arrivistes
Another Parker 51. They made them from WWII onwards with a couple of ink delivery mechs - this is a later Aerometric, with a large ink sac / filler that i only need to fill every 3-4 weeks with daily use. It writes a lovely smooth, wet line - but, key for me, is definitely more ‘draggy’ than a ballpoint so it keeps the spider tendencies under control
… Or if you’re in the RN it means you’re an Admiral - similar outcome
Nice bigger capacity ink for the win - I have a couple of eyedroppers that last for weeks
Fountain pens were compulsory at my school
I threw mine away the day I left and have never owned one since!
I had a collection of quite a few at school, mostly Parkers of which the 45 was a stylish unit to my teenage eyes. It had relatively easily replaceable nibs & I spent quite a while working out which width nib gave the optimal feel (smoothness vs drag) for my scribbles of the time.
Could run on cartridges or a pump mechanism too & the cartridges had the nifty reserve tank you had to tap if you unexpectedly ran out.
I often felt sorry for my best friend at the time who wrote left handed & who always ended up smudging what he’d written despite sometimes turning the page to extraordinary angles. I’m sure for a while, we really weren’t allowed to hand in work written in biro.
Why is it no surprise the AA has a fetish for expensive fountain pens
Not allowed in my school, if you didn’t have a fountain pen you had to use pencil
Mine are all ~£35. Although it’s perfectly possible to spend thousands on them.
I did own a beautiful Pilot (Japanese) ballpoint for many years.
Best thing I ever wrote with
There is a famous website with an unfortuante name for pen lovers
My mum went to Riddlesworth Hall School in Norfolk from age 7 where they used to cane you over the knuckles if you picked up a pen/pencil with your left hand, she is still left handed.
Go on girl!!
What is n shit?
Great. Ideal thread title.
Better than stationary n shit would have been
