First started planning this table back in 2017. The top, made from 4 planks of quarter sawn Oak, commenced in 2020 and completed in 2021.
Now we’ve decided to stay in Dalton and repurpose the kitchen to include a small dining area, it’s time to get on and make it.

Proportions looking ok so on with shaping the lower foot. Then a pair of rebated halving joints top and bottom.
That’s a job for tomorrow.
4 of the male halves of the rebate halving joints done, 6 to go. When complete I’ll use the router plane to accurately thickness the halving joint, then cut the U element of female ends.
Setting the end overhang so i can proceed with the main stretcher housing joints.
This is just one half of the top. The width of 106cm allows for an easy 4 seater and a comfortable 6 without needing a table longer than 160cm.
A couple of weeks should see this completed, installed in October once the decorator has finished.
A spindle backed, splayed legged, Elm, two seater bench to make for one side… that’s the next project.

One foot cut to shape, just final sanding and rounding over to complete, happy days.
However, a very stupid momentary lapse in concentration means that the other foot is scrap and will need to be remade. I used a couple of additional festool dominoes to help stabilise the lamination during glue up. They were shallow and would be undercut when the large taper was removed. I must have alerted the depth setting on this foot…fuuuuuuuck…

Just the pads too go either end of the rail, bit of shaping and then final glue up. Should have the frame finished tomorrow.
