Iām failing to give a shit Iām afraid. Americans know what they have to do, enough of them want a basic level of gun control. The fact they dont do it is entirely their own fault.
If they wanted to get really serious they could just change the constitution, as they could on abortion.

I remember an Obama interview towards the end of his presidency when he was talking about what heād achieved and, very honestly, about what he hadnāt. He said that heād been surprised to find how little absolute power he actually had. If he had his time again heād like to come back as someone with more power. āLike who ?ā asked the interviewer. He came straight back with āA focus group member in a swing stateā.
There was an old story that used to do the rounds, Roosevelt I think, who couldnāt get anything through the House. One day out on the Whitehouse lawn he mentioned that there were too many squirels around. The next day there were none.
In America, it really is the people who have the power, if only they recognised that.
