Tales from Uh-merica

Yessir. See @MGOwner’s post up a couple.

And?
Twat?? Not sure what your point is? The bbc had a whole section on the issues with the medical evidence. I pointed out the issues before they were widely reported… I said I thought the verdict would be guilty.

Your post was far more articulate though.

You did.

Although I’m interested in how you compare these two quotes?

I’m my view the knee to the neck was of very little consequence (relative to the totality of all the issues he faced). It was bad, but it became the focal point and that could have posed dangers for the jury.
He was more likely deprived of blood flow by being prostrate and in a poor position. The focus was on the knee but it was far more the way he was allowed to remain laid in the floor for nine minutes.
I was just looking at the facts and trying not to just be part of the lulynch mob who didn’t look past the video (exactly why the prosecution used the works “believe what you see”). A lot of people decide guilt before trials now!

The issue was encapsulated in one image. The trial issues were far more complex and I was intrigued at some of the nuances in the arguments. It’s not our law, but I suspect he’d have got off with murder here and was a nailed on manslaughter.

I expect Police will be going on strike across the US soon, the police unions are not going to like those verdicts.

He wasn’t convicted of murder, in the US our version is first degree.

He was charged with 2nd and 3rd degree murder which is variations of manslaughter here

Probably my point then. I just heard he was guilty of murder. Seems it was a lesser type…

I did say i wasn’t following the wider trial.
Not sure what degrees of murder are all about. It’s pretty simple in Uk law.
What I thought then. My bad for thinking they had pinned the mother load on him.

He was clearly negligent.

Thank fuck Joe Biden is President. Can you imagine the Former Guy’s reaction to these verdicts?

Which all reads as purely your own speculation, rather than facts, no? You’re in no more of a position to determine the facts than anyone else not involved with the trial,

The medical evidence was that he didn’t die from any kneck pressure.
Beyond that there was a cause given but no one could be specific about the reasons for it.

Absolutely it’s just my opinion! The court was full of medical experts giving opinion as there were all sorts of variables that could have lead to a cardiac arrest (drugs, bad heart etc. ).

The neck thing is a red herring, even if it wasn’t the direct cause, he was in the cop’s “care” and as such mr cop contributed to the circumstances that caused his death and so is guilty of manslaughter (uk definition). Which is basically what he got.

I wonder what the sentence will be. In Minnesota he could get anything up to 40 years, but there’s no minimum.

Couple of papers are saying the norm would be 12 to 15.

Ouch, a short sentence like that won’t go down well

It is similar to the sentence for manslaughter here, and that would have been the charge here.

He may well need to be segregated completely. This is not easy time. US prisons are racially segregated, his ‘protection’ from the black population would be from the Aryan Brotherhood but they are curiously not into policemen. His situation is dire, even if time served / parole is available at 6 years he will be unimaginably changed if he survives at all.

I know a couple of people who were convicted of manslaughter in the UK.
One was for wreckless driving whilst drunk where his girlfriends sister died, he received 2 years, the other was for killing someone in a street fight, he got 12 years.

It’s all about intention.
No doubt the officer never intended death, but his actions caused it.

The dangerous driving max has now been increased to ten years. A local drunk killed a family out for a walk, ran them over on the pavement pissed at the wheel. Got ten years for dangerous driving. Should have been 10 for each life, I would make a good Judge.

Also, kill someone while driving and using a mobile, hands free or otherwise and be prosecuted for dangerous driving as a result, welcome to ten years at Brenda’s pleasure.
