Tennis - at least it's marginally more interesting than golf

Danill Medvedev wins his first major.
3 sets to Love!
US Open.

Djok below par. Longer matches worn him down, nerves on getting close to the year slam. Golden slam already gone.

Crowd tried to put Med off each serve. He was too far ahead in the end.

Meanwhile the rest of the tour are earning their crust this week (and every week) with lower level WTA and ATP tournaments in Slovienia and Luxembourg.

Some good matches to catch from there.

The tour never stands still.

Interesting Indian Wells masters 1000 tournament.
Held in Autumn due to CV (normally March).

Raducanu was predictably drained after her US Open win.
Murray did much better. He’s starting to look physically and tennis wise, a much better competitor. Can start to string match wins together.

The women’s final was a scorcher!
Amazing level of hitting. So many winners.
Long match too! Nice to see young blood Paula Badosa win it!
She managed to lift the heavy trophy aloft!:muscle:

It was close though.
I’ve seen her matches since 2014 or so.
Bringing more power, consistency and winning mindset now.
She could go far.

I’m watching the Basilashvilli / Norrie men’s final match, on replay right now.

1 all in sets so far. Cam has had deal with a purple hard hitting patch from Basil.
Now seems to have found a way and Basil dropped his level a notch.

Again, nice to see new players winning.
I’m sick of Fed/Nad/Djok tbh.

Update, Cam wins it. Quite smoothly in the 3rd set actually.:+1:

The trophy too heavy too raise aloft. Huge lump of glass!

Djokovic!:scream:

Only a little while to find out - in or out!

I thought the court case was due to be heard today (Monday in Oz)?
Can’t see a report of the result anywhere?

It was my vote

GMT+11 hours. So I think it’s not yet 9 am in Melbourne.

according to a radio report I just heard it is due to start about 23:00 uk time

Looks like he’s free to play. There’s a lot I’m not really understanding here. It looks like the refusal to grant the visa was quashed on technical grounds (insufficient notice given to cancel) rather than on the meat of the refusal. The narrative just doesn’t seem to make sense to me at this point.

I’m also really baffled by Nigel Farage’s sudden interest, aside from his usual habit of sticking his nose into anything that will give him publicity. But given his fandom for the Australian immigration setup and his persistent effort to make life difficult for Eastern Europeans in particular, you’d really expect him to be sat on the other side of the debate.

Yes, you couldn’t make it up.

His lawyers got him off on a technicallity relating to how he was detained / not given correct access to lawyers at the border. Nothing, it seems, to do with the exemption’s validity to enter Aus.

Let’s see.

If he does get to play the Aus Open.
There will be 127 vaccinated men, 128 vaccinated women and 1 unvaccinated Djok (or Novax), in the 1st round.

He’s holding a press conf 13.00 GMT.

Speculating;
I reckon there’s been a deal.
He gets his temp Visa, not banned for 3 years, but decides to leave to be with family / regroup.
Gov can then say they would have kicked him out in due course, but he’s already gone.

He’s a belligerent cunt who will play in the tournament. There will be plenty of hissing and booing from indignant locals plus fisticuffs from AussieSerbs

Just because he plays tennis he rides roughshod and pushes his luck on the rules and regulations, yet ordinary people with genuine reasons to want to enter Australia are barred because of covid restrictions. Family crisis and loved ones taking second place to a selfish twat who wants to play tennis. Novax Dipstick can fuck right off.

I assume this technicality was the least contradictory for Ozzie authorities. Judge repeated several times during the last night hearing ā€œthis man has done everything he was asked toā€ pointing at other issues that may involve Feds, Border Police, Victoria authorities, Tennis Australia/AO and independent state health/COVID bodies. Probably Pandora box of internal politics and bad relations on different levels.

Cunt or not but let’s be honest despite personal feelings - if he wasn’t granted a visa to travel and medical exemption - both from the state - the scandal wouldn’t happen.

Fwiw he will not be the only unvaccinated playing AO, 5 players were given medical exemption.

I only hope this case will shed more light on:

  1. the sad migrant detention place (called Hotel Park Melbourne) with some being stuck there for 9 years and no one giving a flying fu*k

  2. discrimination of humans vaccinated with other vaccines than western ones, such as a Russian player who was refused because she got 2 Sputnik jabs (although the vaccine is 90% similar to Astra Zeneca).

Both are disgraceful examples of legalized discrimination, at least for my stomach.
