To be fair, most of them, especially the lads, work harder and longer than I could ever imagine doing, and some/most of them allegedly rely on amphetamines to achieve that. Also, they’re genetically programmed to vote Tory, and more recently Reform.
A lot of them can’t actually operate very well in normal social situations outside of farming, unless they’re not going to be inheriting the farm and have to go to college/uni to learn something else, where they finally get an insight to other ways of life. They have their own pubs (our local one, inevitably, is The Farmers Arms) and their quarterly balls, their unofficial AGM at Blackpool is famously raucous because, when they’re let off the leash and get to decompress they make the most of it.
This all sounds like cliche, but I swear it’s not.
This is a farmer who does some stand up, it’s quite good, and gives an insight to the adolescent farmlings world view.

Today the first part of my 2.5 hour long meal relief was spent overhearing two colleagues talking about small boats.
It was very much the right-wing version of that narrative.
Perhaps the most telling line was this:
“…it’s out of control, but at least there’s someone who will clean my car…”
Thankfully, I had more important things to do like arranging to speak to someone that has lost their Uncle; speak to a family member and complete a few French Lessons.
However, if these two make the error of asking me how I am, I’m going to fucking go for it.

Pretty much every rando-convo in Lincolnshire gets on to ‘immigrants’ and ‘small boats’ fast if you’re not very careful. At some point there will also be unironic, profoundly self-unaware complaints about the impossibility of recruiting people to do any kind of manual labour, skills shortages, and what I call ‘scuffer crimes’ - i.e. drugs, petty thieving, drink-driving, low-level fraud (esp. benefits), child neglect, child abuse, domestic violence, alcoholism, antisocial behaviour, &c, &c… 99% of it committed by multi-generation unemployed white scum of resolutely British origin, who are also the exact same people who vote Reform and “muh jerbs” the shit out of every opportunity…
Not one of them ever shows the slightest interest in issues like high level corproate tax-avoidance, corrupt and dishonest populist politicians, gigantic and growing wealth imbalance, or the profound neglect of all aspects of social infrastructure - because that would basically be communism, and THEY are all a bunch of cretinous, forelock-tugging serfs that love nothing better than nuzzling on the flaccid groin-maggots of the ultrawealthy and privileged…

Alexa can fuck right off. For years it responded to commands to pause TV/play TV. Now to pause or play the TV, I have to say “pause Samsung TV”.
Then it decided that “pause Samsung” was acceptable. Then it changed its mind again and refuses to cooperate unless I say “pause Samsung TV”.
However to change the channel, volume, or mute it still responds just to TV. e.g. Alexa mute the TV or Alexa set the TV to channel 101. WTAF? It’s driving me mad.
