Certainly a number of bumblebees around in the past week and hanging around those plum flowers!
Our two pears are budding up nicely but not flowering yet, the Peach however will be flowering in the next week I’d say!
Well our front garden is getting battered by a lack of planning and effort on our part, and 3 dogs using it as a playground, but a little ray of sunshine just appeared with the first flower from the magnolia I planted.
Lovely!
It has a long way to go to match the size and presence of next doors magnolia which cascades over our wall
Oh wow that’s just amazing!
Mines shaping up nicely for this years RHS events
My garden is about 28mm square and I still feckin’ hate gardening.
Always nice to have a view when washing up! Love the taps, ate they just for the plants?
It’s only in the last few years since we moved I have in to it, our three previous houses/flat I just did not get it, and had no interest really.
Yeah they’re just ornamental.
Ooh, any pics? Will you be taking the shed to Chelsea?
Been busy today, making the most of a free day! Cutting down and digging out an unwanted Berberis (Bastard spines) and made a ‘dead hedge’ to deal with the byproduct. Also add to that some Hazel & and an unknown tree encased in Ivy from the left hand side giving a fair bit of light!
There is a small Viburnum and Hydrangea in front of it, I’ll be planting some other shade loving shrubs in the future to help cover it a little, I wanted something to break up the garden, especially in the winter as its a bit sparse with little evergreen at the moment.
The area behind the dead hedge is largely shaded for most of the day so I have a whole load of Shade Wildflower Seed Balls coming to plant out to complete the wildlife corner of the back garden!
The idea of the dead hedge is to make use of the clippings from the garden as well as hopefully providing a nice home for bugs and other critters, including a toad I came across when relocating some rotten wood a couple of feet to the back of the new feature. Hopefully he will stay!
On the other side, the Peach is in flower which is lovely, and a nice combination with next doors Cherry?? that is simply stunning!
Loveliest of trees, the cherry now is hung with bloom along the bough …
This week’s focus is the front garden, a new planting bed with 5x dwarf buddleias, couple of Lavenders, Hebes & Escallonias as well as some rehomed and new Primrose & Polyanthus. Overseen from the Robin on the buddleia cut back on the left.
The central are is a wildflower seed mix planted a few weeks back.
Should have bit the bullet and ordered a turf cutter from the local hire place, however the friendly Robin enjoyed my efforts!
And very pleased with the amount of Ladybirds this year, loads and loads everywhere.
Also been defining the planting beds in the back garden as well as planting out a few remaining small Hebes and a couple of larger Buddleia varieties.
I wouldn’t read too much into that. They’re feisty territorial little beggars and he’s just as likely to be challenging you to a scrap !
He was certainly very friendly! He was turning his nose up at the 4-5 chafer beetle larvae I dug up, might have been a bit too big of a meal and a nice worm about right!
