Better on some terrain than others, as the Benson lads found out up the road from here last year

Thought it sounded familiar - 2021.

Chinooks are fucking mental, I’ve never been in anything that bent and rattled like that when being thrown about. Could swear that in one night landing I heard a bolt go ping and fly past my ear.

It’s the only helicopter that can lift its own weight isn’t it?

It can indeed. They train pilots out of Benson so we see (and hear) them a lot round here. Quite impressive if they come at you low and at full throttle.

Sikorsky Skycrane can too.

Occasionally we have one that comes over the house. Most times it’s a loud noise. A few weeks back it flew, what seemed, a few feet above roof level. The house shat itself

I had the pleasure of being a guest at RAF Odiham some years ago. Pilots were putting a serviced Chinook through its paces, how something that big can stand on its nose, sit on its backside almost vertically and fly so quickly turning on a sixpence I’ll never know. The pilots were obviously having fun but not as much as me. When skill and a capable machine gel it’s awesome to behold.

Often see them flying along the Thames when I am in the office. The noise is so distinctive and of course fantastic.

Far more occasionally they land on Hampstead Heath but sadly I think that is when someone needs to be taken to the Royal Free Hospital urgently.

Still amazing to see something that big lift off the ground.

Amazing capture…

Stunning work.

I agree a good capture but am I missing something? That isn’t Concorde - it looks like a Vucan (although I am no avaiation expert)

Oh man, have I been duped?

‘RAF Luton’ is a spoof. Bit played-out now TBH.

Thank you Maureen.
