The crotch rocket thread

It’s mad that years ago a 250 was a perfectly acceptable size bike for someone with a full licence , now someone’s first big bike is likely to be a 650 or similar.

I can remember my brothers orange Suzuki gt250 like it was yesterday.
( he was older than me by quite a bit )
My first big bike was a 350ypvs

My first bike was an MZ 250, back in the day when you could ride a 250 on an L plate.

Next one was a Suzuki 650 Savage, then a 1400 Intruder…

I’ve definitely posted earlier that in Straya the licences were staggered;

Class A : up to 250 cc
Class B: 250 to 500 cc
Class C: 500 and above.

There had to be a year between applications and exams.

Not saying this was right, just that it set the tone for training and proven ability before advancement.

Id already learnt my lesson on a rd125.
Unassisted human flight.

7 ribs , collar bone in two places. Shoulder blade , punctured lung and severe grazing. Didn’t help that my protective gear was jeans and a t shirt.

I ride like I’m driving miss Daisy now.
Older and wouldn’t say wiser but there’s definitely a realisation that I know I won’t bounce as well nowadays.

Been At Lydden hill circuit helping my son today, felt pretty apprehensive following the tragic incidents at the last 2 track days we’ve attended. Thankfully all went well.

Will be at this event tomorrow last year was a really great weekend

That Sheene coloured 500

Love the Silk.

It was a great bike, but a 2-stroke liquid-cooled twin wasn’t what “British bike” buyers were looking for (a Bonneville).

I had never heard of Silk.
Prompted me to have a quick read up on them.
I guess nowadays they’d just order a motor from one of the Japanese firms to slot into their frame.
I’ll be keeping an eye out at the National motorcycle museum next month for a Silk.

Agreed. Ahead of its time similar story with the big Hesketh V twin

I’ve got a bike in the house but this is a first

Strong faith in the Rawlplug. Don’t know which will mess up the imaging more; the bike or the pot plants.

Table and chairs are an optimistic look,as I’m pretty sure he is single

New to me:

'Tis a scruffy old thing, but seems mechanically sound, came with a new test and was cheap

The silly roundels were painted on (yes, painted :face_with_raised_eyebrow:) by the PO to commemorate his graduation in '72 - beats me… At least it goes well, as you would expect :sunglasses:
