Spinal Tap: These Go To 11

this probably doesn’t need saying, but I’m going to say it anyway… on the long journey to Ilford that requires a splash and dash to get home, top up on the way there while home is still in range.
If the shit hits the fan with the charging for any reason you can turn around and go back.

Yes but it’s not recommended to keep most batteries charged to 100% in case you have to dash to Ilford.

If you had to ‘dash’ to Ilford, the car would only need 50%. You might need 100% if you needed to ‘dash’ there and immediately back. How likely is that?

Have you read the thread?

If I want more range, i just reset the trip computer when it’s fully charged, goes from 195 to 238miles.

Looked at the new Tesla M3 premium all wheel drive today, online, and was test driving one an hour later!
I would like the longer range of the rear wheel premium, but I’m used to 4 wheel drive now. Just need to make my mind up and do it.

Very likely. Probably half the runs down to Ilford are just to pick up or drop off either daughter (not often both because one has stay to look after their cats) Ann usually does these trips because she doesn’t mind the quick turnaround. I prefer to stay overnight to split the journey.

If Ann’s got an expectation of never having to use a public charger ever, I think you’re mad to bother.

I admit it’s me that’s driving this change to an EV. The fact that we have a heat pump, solar and batteries but no EV niggles.

I think it could work. Ann uses the car a lot locally, plus the Ilford trips. If we’re going further away, (like the near 300 mile trip to Northumberland and back last week) I’ll be with her, so I can manage the public charging.

Does she ever fill the current car with fuel?
Why does she think plugging it in will be more difficult?

Yes, she does the majority of the fueling. I’ve explained the similarities no end. :person_shrugging:

I think it’s mostly range anxiety. There was a turning moment recently when I said “imagine getting into the car outside every morning and it has a full tank” she liked that :+1:

Does she like getting in warm cars in winter and cool cars in summer? I find that to be a big seller.

I would think so, but I hadn’t thought of that. So cheers for that suggestion :+1:

Can’t you fit a charger to your daughters place, even a quick turnaround takes an hour and a cup of tea

Mg4 is good (just helped my son in law buy one in very bright orange) but low if like most retired people you are looking for suv style to assist getting in and out, and high ride visibility. Also a bit cheap feeling inside compared to your merc too so doubt you will love it - preferred the mg s5

Unfortunately not, they live in a rented flat and although it’s on the ground floor, there’s no driveway.

Interestingly tho, LB Redbridge (where they live) provide on-street charging posts. These are dotted all over the borough. There is actually one very close to their flat. Thing is, it is very popular - I’ve never seen it vacant.

Re the MG4; yes, the extended range one is on the shortlist. We don’t want an SUV.

Do you not have any reservations about lining Musk’s pockets? He’s an absolute Thundercunt.

My dad has got an old man’s Mokka (54kW) and he regularly gets well over 200 miles from it with an advertised range of 250 miles

He did a round trip to Heathrow of 150miles and got back with 30% remaining
