How many mince pies would be considered too many to consume in 1 day?
I remember being a 9 year old cub scout & eating 22 at the school bazaar… Seemed perfectly sensible at the time.
What do we think is a reasonable price to pay for one mince pie in a cafe?
About 1/1000th of the cost of a muffin
In That London they seem to be up around £2:00 or more for a decent one.
I was being offered an overly dusted home made one in a hipsterish cafe down here today.I thought £2 was a bit steep when I had some at home. Shared a piece of cake with Gill instead.
You deserve all you get
Damn right! My hot chocolate was poor too.
Not even touched a mince pie yet . Never liked shop bought crumbly rubbish. Hoping to make my own later this week - as apprentice to my great grandmother many years back and hoping to remember everything she taught me.
Having now tried a variety of shop ones, I can report they are all more edible than the wife’s. However they are all fairly rubbish, my favourite is this
Genuinely short pastry with just a hint of caster sugar dusting, fruity mince with a nice touch of walnuts, bit booze enriched but ok, second is the Pret pie, price is shit though.
As I am too lazy to make any I am gonna make do with these from Sainsbury not proper but loads nicer to eat than anything I have encountered.
Was presented with a box of the Aldi deep fill MPs today. Sadly, they were deeply feckin’ empty. That is, deep and doughy pastry case containing a thin layer of flavourless mince and lots of empty space. Impossible to eat without getting covered in pastry as the pie collapses upon itself upon first munch.
Summary: Jizz. Avoid.
Those Sainsbury’s ones look close to being decent.
They look like rogue Eccles cakes.
