All this fuss over a fancy foreign custard tart has me intrigued.
Not Sure I fancy my chances of finding any in my neck of the woods though - unless Greggs have any plans in the offing…

I made some today.
Two issues. The recipe called for the use of a muffin tray but the resulting pasteis are massive. I did make a few in the normal mince pie tray & those are too small. I need a tray with indents somewhere in between.
The custard comes out fine & tastes great but these were made with jus-rol type puff pastry & it’s shit. I need to make the pastry from scratch which will require much faff.

Good effort though.
The custard bit is fine, the ready made pastry always tastes a bit cardboardy though. The ones we had recently in Spain were a cut above, no doubt because they make their own pastry.

Not much call for European delicacies here - unless Ferrero Rocher counts.
I suppose I could just wander around Newcastle, asking random passers-by if they’d be kind enough to direct me to the nearest purveyor of pasteis de nata. I’m sure that would work…

Thanks - Tynemouth isn’t too far away, but a journey like that would present me with a serious problem - a 25 mile drive with an internal dialogue along the lines of ‘Is this where your life choices have taken you? All this way for a jumped-up, blowtorched Mr Kipling? You utter cunt’ etc etc.
