The Reading Room

What’s the story about Gareth?

Hi Rob,

I will do my best!

In the 25 century, there are no nation states and religious proselytising is illegal. There are seven Hives to which most people belong. This has been enabled by high-speed global travel (not yet explained). The books mainly deal with political plotting, intrigue and a fair bit of sex and murder. The author is a history professor so there is a lot of historical reference. In this future, gender is ambiguous, so you don’t immediately know the sex of the characters. This definitely adds a layer of something!

To be honest, the first book didn’t get going until halfway through. I did enjoy it, hence book 2.

Cheers Gareth, just bought the first book for less than a fiver, so I’ll see how it goes.

Oh, I forgot.to mention Bridger. Guess you’ll find out for yourself now.

Noel Coward is in it?

There are no Minis involved.

Not even flying ones?

The Vinyl Detective, if you haven’t, don’t bother.
Holes, reading for work, again. A brilliant novel, not just a good kids read.
A book that when I first read it at 16 gave me hope, now it mostly makes me sad. An essential read.
