Musk going apeshit because the owner of Telegram has been arrested by the French as he stepped into their jusisduction knowing they had an open arrest warrant on him.
Behind this is essentially the legal battle between the social media owners declaring they aren’t responsible for content and European jurisdictions taking a different view.
No wonder Musk is worried.
It seems the Russian military is in a bit of a panic about it as well

Given the US are fully aiding and abetting Israel’s war crimes it would have been a tricky arrest to make. They’d be acknowledging their own culpability.
It is a total mess which won’t get sorted out.
On one hand it is a haven for right wing groups, with full security and end to end encryption, on the other it is used extensively by Ukraine as the only place Russians can see the ‘truth’ of the war and the only place not subject to censorship by Russian authorities so used by many dissident groups in Russia.
It has no censorship or moderation which is both a good thing and a bad thing depending on your political leanings and the direction of the wind
It should be moderated, if the Russians dont like it they can ban it.
The point I’m making is wider than Telegram, X, FB etc should be accountable as a business for their content, they ain’t the last bastions of unfettered speach, the internet isnt defined by these busineses.
Durov holds 3 citizenships, russian, french and Dubai, the latter being where his business operates from. Tickled me that the French denied him Russian demands for Consular access.

It’s pretty simple really. Elmo has seen a path to successful monetisation of the site by becoming cunt central. It has the advantage over other hellsites like Truth Social and the like that it was once a nice place to be and the ‘bleed off’ of accounts who used it then and still show is slow and inflates the numbers over places that started as hellsites.
I’m gutted really. I loved Twitter. It was a place where I’d see something every single day that was clever and funny and cheered me up. Leaving it is a wrench but I guess I have to.
I’ve remained on twitter purely for birding news and it’s extremely rare that I ever get involved in anything else on what is an increasingly toxic platform for horrible cunts.
The last couple of weeks has seen a large number of my birding contacts leave to join Bluesky. This has happened before but nowhere near the scale of the current exodus.
I’m still slightly concerned that it could be yet another false dawn but the signs are encouraging. I’m currently posting my news on both sites, hedging my bets if you like, but providing the trend continues I should be in a position to ditch it without missing much, if any, content. That will be a happy day.
