LOL, back in my yoof I wrote a control program for a rheometer in FORTRAN. On a DEC PDP-8. 
Dunno. Theirs would have been a lot more grown-up than my system though, which ran on networked Windows PCs (nominally ‘industrial’ ones, so at least the hardware didn’t fall over all the time). I gave in to my lad and he did write our stuff in Pascal in the end. Most of it involved interacting with IEEE-488 interfaces which were what talked directly to the instrumentation and controllers.
Wrote radar return simulation software in Fortran on Vax / VMS back in the day.

Scratch is great. I love how the commands kinda fit together according to whether it’s a legal combo. Reminds me of ZX Basic, in a way

All of a sudden, I’ve developed an interest in computers. 
I wrote a program to calc room reverberation time in FORTRAN 77 on a PRIME at Salford Uni in '87, although most of the hours were lost in the GINO libraries trying to get the visualisation and graphs to work
that’s about the limit of my programming…
My uncle worked for them, the OPD was part visionary and part hilarious.
