a three-year-old girl, born in Spain to a British and a Bulgarian mother, has been left stateless since she was born three years ago. Jane, the child’s British mother, was born in Gibraltar and moved to the UK when she was two weeks old. As she acquired British citizenship by descent, she has been unable to pass on citizenship to her daughter

I don’t get this, the girl was born in Spain who have birthright citizenship so she should be able to get a Spanish passport.

Also not sure why they are pitching this as a “same sex relationship” issue as it would affect any person/couple who were born outside the UK but have citizenship by descent.

“While UK nationality laws don’t explicitly discriminate against LGBTIQ+ parents, it’s the implementation in practice and the lack of regulation for children who may be stateless that creates these situations,”

British nationals and their EU spouses say they have been told by the department that children born abroad to a British parent who was also born outside the UK are not eligible for British citizenship

Warm air boiler in my old house that we rent out has been deemed unsafe and switched off. Heat exchanger exchanging more than heat.
So around £1k to fix or £5.4k to put a Ideal Logic Max Combi boiler and some radiators in.

Bugger.

Tenants have leccy heating sorted while we get the central heating fixed.

Jim’s got a heat pump coming up for sale soon.

BiL in NZ has been selected as a/the goalie for the “legends” i.e.over-50s in some kind of hockey championships in Italy next year.

Road trip?

Definitely.

You’ve dodged a bullet with that mind!

Was hoping to get a few more years out of the boiler.
What are your thoughts on the Ideal boilers? Better to try and get a Worcester?

Ideal are often landlord choices, mid range, fairly reliable, decent warranty.
@A_Touch_of_Cloth will of course recommend Vaillant

not these days apparently. Baxi have 7 year warranty as do Vaillant (I think) at the moment.

The Ideal has a 10 year warranty.

The Worcester we committed to through BOXT yesterday has a 10 year warranty

Just personal preference really, but Worcester and Baxi are my choice purely from a mechanical point of view and support.

I can get straight through to trained engineers with them if needs be to help with any faults, also their warranty call outs are spot on.

Modern Ideals are good boilers, I’m just jaded by the shit they have produced in the past, coupled with a few nightmares with their service engineers.

You’ll be reet with them. Just glad you got rid of your ducted air system.

Apologies, world inline hockey championships in the south Tirol.

Apparently it’s very popular in NZ, but by the time you get into your 50s players are thin on the ground so getting into the national side isn’t hugely competitive.

Possibly actually on topic for the thread.

IOT presents loads of security concerns. My mate did his PhD on security of wi-fi enabled devices in the home. He cracked though everything from kettles to lightbulbs. Very few of these wifi enabled devices are ever patched from the day they leave the factory. Worst offender was a cheap alarm clock which gave him access to the entire home network.

Went to town to do some shopping today….

Boots do nearly 50% of their annual sales over the Christmas period apparently - based on the shop we visited they’ll sell about £6.50 this year. Shelves half empty, hardly any customers and the ‘Xmas store’ looked like one of those ‘we sell what’s been returned’ pop-up shops.

The only shop that felt remotely Xmas busy was the food bit in M&S

Really doesn’t bode well for physical shops
