The shit that does merit its own thread

Err…does that mean you’ve had a few good wins…or given up that mug’s game altogether? :joy:

Made a fortune on betting Liverpool to lose.

I think he made a fortune on betting against Trump being elected in the last election even after Biden had been declared the winner!

Was talking to bloke at work about slight hum I get through the bass units on both speakers. He played me 50hz hum which sounded identical to what I have.

Is it an earth issue that can easily be sorted?

It’s an unhelpful answer, I realise, but the truth is “Possibly, but also possibly not.”. There’s a trail of questions which should, eventually, lead you to an understanding of the problem. First three are:

What are the components of the system (sources, amps, speakers) ?

Has the hum always been there, or has it appeared recently ?

If the hum has appeared, were any changes made to the system immediately before it did ?

I bought the amp 3 years ago and hum was there already
Had amp looked at 2 years ago with new valves put in,but hum still there

Most of the time it doesn’t bother me as it’s not loud, but can be annoying

Could well be that there isn’t a lot of power supply smoothing in an AI300 for high efficiency speakers, particularly in the phono stage. Not sure if there is scope to scale up any of the caps (possibly a q for @murrayjohnson)?

So I take it the amp still hums with all the sources unplugged from it and the volume at minimum, or is it OK then but only hums as the volume’s turned up ?

The hum is through the bass not the amp,it’s the same loudness with the volume turned down. I’ll unplug everything except the speakers tomorrow

A separate sub ?

No, just the 15”eminence

A Belgian buddy is currently doing a mini-break in Belfast (that’s the short version).

He’s a gregarious guy, and keeps WhatsApping me with selfies along with people he’s photobombed.

“Here’s us with James Nesbitt in the Crown”

Fair enough.

“Here’s us with Bill Clinton”

Bit of an escalation there mate :face_with_monocle:

While we’re doing Clinton anecdotes  some friends lived in LA in the 90s.

She was out for her early jog when a photogenic older guy in shades dropped in beside her, and they started chatting.

It was only when he asked her which way she was going to vote that she clocked the discreet defensive perimeter that had formed around them and realised who he was.

When they had a remberance ceremony, for 50 years after the end of WWII, at Madingly cemetary, four of us had a meeting/conversation with Bill & Hilary Clinton, and John and Norma Major. Security were a bit bewildered, but were discrete.
