The second jumping kid is cheating, his flares will act as parachutes.
I wonder why there was no “Carry on Escaping”
Presumably because Hitler ordering the execution of 50 of the escapers from Stalag Luft III wasn’t very funny
Yeah, that would do it, didn’t know that ![]()
Always wonder how the American show Hogan’s Heroes was sold. A sitcom set in a Nazi run POW camp . . . the laughs practically write themselves
You mean you have never watched the Great Escape?
Errr yes, many years ago. ![]()
But thinking about it, gratuitous murderous history didn’t seem to bar other Carry On films being made - Cleo, Khyber etc ![]()
Sure, but the writer and potentially one of the lead actors were not in Afghanistan in 1841 or in Egypt in 35BC, didn’t have friends who died there nor have PTSD and nightmares about the events they remembered.
Apart from that I see nothing wrong with your logic!
Putting my armchair psychologist’s hat on, maybe if they had made a film about it in a genre they so obviously loved and treasured, it might have helped with any lingering PTSD.
If you think about it when the Carry On films were made (mainly 60s and 70s) there would have been millions of people alive who experienced WW2 and lost loved ones and friends and thousands who were suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues, I am sure this was seriously taken into account when any decision about content was made. However you may know much more than I about mental health and if you think all they needed was a good laugh at their anguish you may well be right.
Or you could simply throw the shovel away
We also had (maybe you did too) the extremely questionable 'Allo 'Allo
Set in occupied France, with bumbling Nazis and slapstick Gestapo and definitely no summary executions.
And all foreigners have silly accents obvs.
Meh…

Apparently a couple of people were interested in buying Yodel. However they dropped out when they realised there was a strong likelihood the delivery would be lost or damaged.
Hope they do collapse although feel for their staff of course.
I love his blog - always fascinating stories.
