I remember early 80’s when stone cladding was a thing in and around Manchester, and I suspect most of the country. I remember one place on my paper round that had it, except it was so shit it appeared to be basically polystyrene with sand glued to it.

There was a woman in an art gallery at the Sidmouth folk festival the other weekend who was sporting a fine bushy tail. It did lend a certain allure, not sure why!

If people do want to revisit their schooling by mad scientists, the books appear fairly expensive.

Remember that exact volume - with considerable hate and rage. ITA lastingly fucked my schooling.

Trouble with ITA is it assumed English was a standardized language. It doesn’t matter about the shape of the written language as long as the reader can make a recognisable local noise, Geordie, Northen Ireland or whatever.

It also assumed no kid would have learned to read before they started school - those who had, like me, were actively punished for it.

The older I get, the more I think those of us who suffered under this cretinously cack-handed regime should have sued the tits off the gubmint. Fucking YEARS of my life were wasted trying to catch-up on what school thieved from me, and I have never, ever stopped questioning my own ability ever since, my confidence in education was destroyed. And I’m just one of thousands, many of whom will have had it far worse.

My mother was a noted teacher of reading, but maintained that she never taught a child to read, they just did it when they were ready. She said it was easy to discourage them. She was agnostic about reading schemes and kept a cupboard full of all the reading schemes she had encountered.

Just watched this:
