Before I turned 60 I used to get free prescriptions because I’m type 1 diabetic. This is not a condition which ‘gets better’. But my GP still had to renew my free prescription chit every few years. At least they now don’t keep asking her to confirm that I’m continuing to be over 60.
It’s odd that some conditions get free prescriptions. It kinda seems discriminatory against those of us that have rare conditions that aren’t on the list!
Fortunately there is the £100 per year prepayment system. If that doesn’t exist I’d have to pay that every month. (And if I had to pay privately, it would be that every week.)
I agree. It’s even odder that the chit covers everything. So if you were T1D you could get not only the insulin you’d need but also the, presumably pricier, meds for your condition FOC too. I’m not recommending you have your pancreas removed, mind. I wonder what would be the least troublesome condition you’d have to contract to get free prescriptions ?

My ex had Coeliac disease, istr she got loads of gluten free stuff like flour and pasta free on prescription. Her dad was good mates with her doctor though, so maybe he just signed the chit because of that
