Yep, that sounds like my family about 10-15 years ago. Dementia got most of them. I really despise that disease.
Dementia is a big contributor, sure, but I think a major factor is that people retire, living somewhere suburban, and have absolutely fuck all to do apart from drink
See how all that Lopwell experience comes in handy? ![]()
Just got a speeding ticket. First one since I passed my test 20 years ago
What’s the punishment these days?
The stocks IIRC.
3 points and 100 quid.
More likely a speed awareness course costing 100 quid, and no points.
Unless you were doing waaay over, in which case it will be court and more than 3 and 100. Depends on your local speed partnerships rules. It’s all run by a quango these days.
looks like technology has advanced to have a fast enough shutter speed for the astra then.
I’m surprised the cameras can cope with the red-shift.
In a similar but different vein to Stu today I got a Penalty Charge Notice for failing to comply with a restriction on vehicles entering a pedestrian zone. The zone is for the school which is on the street where I live in Lambeth and runs from 8.15 - 9.15 and 15.00 - 16.00 on school days. The time of the photo of me entering the zone : 12.03. I phone Lambeth and got told ‘Oh there is a charge of zero on the PCN but we wanted to let road users know the cameras were about to be switched on.’ That’s bullshit if ever I heard it. Unnecessarily heavy handed and liable to worry some folks.
*arstards!
The ticket will say whether they are offering a course and zero points or not.
The form they have sent has A fill it out if you were the driver,or B fill this part out if it was someone else.
Might go for B and state it was my neighbour, and let the two of them sort it out👍
Awareness courses are mostly online at the moment. Few hours of your life. Shop around and you can probably get one for £90. Otherwise 3 points and £100.
Used to get free pens when you went to a course.
It won’t at this point. But if you were doing less than 10%+9 mph over the limit a course offer is all but certain. If you were going faster than that, then it’s usually fixed penalty of 3 points + £100. If you were going way over, then it’ll be a trip to court and a bigger fine and up to 6 points.
Shall I change your title to Chris Huhne? I hope you’re not serious as that’s PCoJ and means time in pokey more often than not - they have zero sense of humour about that.
Our local paper has a ‘scales of justice’ column each week in which it names people who’ve been before the beak and sentenced for something more-or-less minor. I’m surprised how often ‘failing to identify the driver’ comes up, presumably when the person who’s done so is the registered keeper of the vehicle (or whatever that’s called these days). Since it sounds like a purely voluntary crime - an option you can go for when the alternative (grassing the actual driver up) would be worse - I wonder why the courts accept it ? It’s clearly stopping them from dispensing actual justice for whatever the actual offence was, and the guilty party must reckon it’s an easier option.
The penalty is quite serious, 6 points and £200, plus MS90 code, which will absolutely fuck your insurance for the next five years.
That said, if what you did is really bad, then it might be a better option!
It’s one of, if not the only exception, to the right not to self incriminate!
It’s the same as failing to provide a specimen for driving under the influence.
It rarely gets you a lesser punishment
I can see why pissed people might be irrationally unco-operative. But surely sober people, who’ve consulted a solicitor, would take the rap unless this was an easier way out ?
There’s a good thread on pepipoo about people who tried to get away with it by lying, or whatever. As per title, some people seem to be willing to end up in jail rather than do a course ![]()
