The shit that does merit its own thread

Who says they’ve consulted a solicitor?

Troo dat.

I had a lapse on Easter Monday and on one of 4 trips past the same camera (on the way to both the stables and the pub where FoL2 works) I triggered it at 36. Fucking annoyed with myself because I’m fully aware of it’s existence and I’ve not been done for speeding since an unfortunate encounter with Les Gendarmes in 2010…

So I’m doing an online Speed Awareness course in a fortnight.

If you opt for online you get loads of date/time slots to fit in with your life. It cost £90 iirc and lasts for approx 3 hours with breaks. As long as you’re got a device that can handle Zoom you’ll be ok to do one.

Claire did one a year or so ago and says you do have to participate and not just have it on in the background, but there’s no passing or failing as long as you join in.

The one I did 2 years ago, one of the participants on Zoom was looking at his phone (not the device used for Zoom) and was disqualified from completing the course, thus incurring the 3 points and the FPN.
They DO expect you to take part and contribute.

Yeah, that’s what Claire said, you do need to join in.

She said it was actually quite interesting.

Been a while since I did one, you had to attend a session in person and they wanted to see your licence to prove you weren’t sending someone else to do it for you.
I suppose Covid put paid to that.

A lot depends on the invigilator. The session can live or die according to how engaging they are.

Covid forced them to rely on Zoom meetings.
You still have to present your licence to the camera at the beginning of the session.

Mine starts at 07:45 so I hope they’re going to be on form, because that’s massively early for me these days and if they’re not engaging me, I’ll be nodding off!

The one I did a couple of years ago was on Zoom. One person spoke basically no English; she had her nephew there who occasionally translated for her when she was asked a question. She really had no clue, but still “passed”.

Hah ! The first 30+ minutes will be the licence and joining bit. HTH

I used to like the ‘in person’ ones. A room full of raging people convinced they were hard done by. Always entertaining and would’ve made a great sitcom. I can’t see them returning to those now they have the much cheaper Zoom alternative

I remember one patronising presenter going round the room and going on about why you were speeding etc. He got to one quite elderly lady who said ‘I like driving fast’

There are classroom sessions available, but they generally, round here at least, require just enough travelling to make it a massive ball ache, compared to getting up 10 mins beforehand and making some toast and a cafetière…

Down with that sort of thing :rage:

Ok, French Press…

I couldn’t do pour over, I’d have to get up at midnight.

This is true, always worth giving the EBTI a go, you might be lucky and be on the way down and blow under at custody. Fairly sure it’s the same or similar sentencing guidelines as drink driving.
Either way, failing to provide is an easier case file to build so no skin off my nose.

Carrie excuse?

I once had to do 5 speed awareness course in about 2 weeks.

Jan had to do one and I got it from her every time we went further than 10 miles from home.

Only one speeding ticket here, for proving that it is possible to do 105 in a Fiat Punto*

This speeding awareness thing is evidently something that has passed me by.

* I blame the cassette of the Chemical Brothers. The officer was more interested in the dalek in the back of the car than my speed. Actually a socking great DEC Alpha box that I was moving from Oxford to Edinburgh.
