I’m happy to take your word for it being a slow starter but it isn’t now. Chord used to share a distributor with the US SME distributor. They used to sell more 30s than 20s. The last decade has seen the ‘Arizona Dentist/ SE Asian factory magnate’ business assume significant proportions; to the extent it’s worth pitching at. The fact this thing is hideous won’t be an issue. The fact that the great man wasn’t involved might be though.

Let’s be honest, however it looks it isn’t going to be a bad turntable. They don’t fuck about
I mean I could type sodders paragraphs about a £400 arm being better than than a V or my Invicta being a more reputable watch than a sub then go to bed crying, but.

You are right in saying it’s not a bad turntable… but it’s six grand and, honestly?, if it didn’t have an SME logo on it, sales would realistically be somewhere between ‘slim’ and ‘sod all.’ SME is a company in the increasingly common industry position of having lost its main brain. Some companies power through this phase and come out stronger. At the moment, I don’t feel SME has reached that phase yet. These latest designs neither feel spiritually linked to the older designs, nor genuinely new.*
*Obviously I haven’t got hands on with a 60. It might be an absolute gamechanger. Might.
