I’m not a fanboy
I just admit I’m an audiophile.
People on forums love to proclaim that their arm is better than a V.
My arm is better than a V. It’s a V-12
It’s 3 inches better.
A few ladies have mentioned that to me x
You may call me one but I would never claim to be one
Oh, and it’s >7
Noone would admit to being one, yet we all are
Perhaps, but it’s such a pretentious term
I’ll use “music lover” instead
I’m a loon for listening to whatever music I want on the best system I can afford
Loon
its just another overweight ugly turntable in black, however it is still the best look they have shown it with so far
Looks like a Basis or VPI or any number of other similar designs. At least the 20 & 30 didn’t look like anything else. Personally I’m not keen on the aesthetics of obstructing, even a little, the ready & easy access to the tonearm by putting the front right suspension pillar where they do but that’s just me.
Any details about the technical aspects that make it an improvement over the 30?
The price surely? All you need to know.
Fuck!
Here are more details of the design & manufacture of SME 60 turntable.
Michael Fremer has some key points on the deck.
Watching them fumble about the design and production facilities was a bit embarrassing I thought. Lots of very ill thought out exchanges behind CAD screens, milling machines, co-ordinate measuring machines which had lots of distracting ‘what’ and ‘how’ content which was in large parts meaningless without being able to describe ‘why’.
I know my way around all that stuff, and I recognise SME want to emphasise their precision engineering USP, but none of it got connected back to ‘this means x or y’ with relation to product performance.
They’re also desperately in need from some design led input to help them with the shape, look, feel of the things they’re machining and finishing.
Why do they keep displaying 60 grand turntables on offcuts of £2.99/m2 office carpet tile?
Engineering not marketing graduates.
I was bored shitless after 7 minutes.
Nothing I saw in that time was either new or cutting edge. Just looked like our precision machine shop 10 years ago. The designer that was wanking over (>20 year old*) Solidworks CAD software was extremely annoying.
*I’m aware it has gone through a large number of updates since then
