I’d definitely be fitting the lock. If she’s at all boisterous then I’d be thinking about the polycarb too. Building regs these days specify safety glass in windows which are near the floor. This is based, I believe, on a history of accidents involving children which, while rare, were sometimes tragically serious (cuts as much as falling).
When I was 5 or 6 I developed a wish to climb onto our outhouse roof. But the climb was too hard. So a friend and I went up to the bathroom, tied a bit of wood to one end of a length of string, tied the other end to something in the bathroom, lobbed the wood out of the window onto the roof opposite and I was about to set out climbing along the string when my mother found us. She wasn’t pleased. Kids, eh …

Thanks guys , yes trying to persuade someone in denial is very hard . apprecaite your thoughts , she is in sheltered housing but won`t accept any care at all . we do have power of attorney but as you say , when to take charge is not easy . i am going to get some nice glossy brochures from the care agency and nag her even more !!!
