I can’t move in here for glue barrels thanks to stockpiling. The word Brexit sends the little shyster apoplectic. I’m certain this is Stronzetto’s new ‘attack’ word and hope it may come in handy at some point during his training
I’ve had to visit pharmacy 2-3 times a month to catch up some prescription drugs, all they say is stockpiling at source.
I asked a similar question whilst shopping in Boots, they had a file many pages long that had restrictions and short supply drugs all blamed on Brexit.
Beer ?
But who profits from not supplying a demand? especially as the prices the NHS have negotiated aren’t going to change during the duration of the contract
yep…
Post No Deal they can charge what they like, it’ll be open season for profiteering with an everlasting mantra that it’s the Will Of The People
Produce less just in case you can’t sell it. If you are stuck with it because demand changes, it costs you.
In unstable periods, it’s common to slow production, which in turn saves money.
Hardly, no deal doesn’t rip up existing contracts
I once went to see a chap , he had thousands of pounds of stockpiled fentanyl patches. Chemists give them out automatic repeat prescription and then patients stockpile. That’s where so much nhs money goes.
I realise that you can stockpile if you aren’t taking the medication, but that’s not what we are talking about
Drugs come in two kinds - fixed dose (one tablet per day) and variable dose (take what you need when you need it). It’s hard to stockpile the first kind - you have to hope your GP’s practice doesn’t act up over more tablets being requested. But if you say you are going to be away on an extended work trip you might be able to get another couple of months’ worth. Then your luggage just needs to get accidentally ‘lost’, or you accidentally leave them on the bus on the way home from the pharmacy and hey-presto you’ve lost your drugs and can you have some more please. For the avoidance of doubt, this is fraud and I’ve never done it. Genuinely, I haven’t. But it would be trivial to get away with once or twice in the run-up, say, to a widely predicted chaotic fuck-up.
Stockpiling the second kind of drug would take essentially no effort at all. Ask for more than you need.
Aren’t we talking about anti-nausea drugs ? Which you need when you (sometimes) feel nauseous.

My son has possibly got asthma ( common in our family, I have that, hay fever & exczema). The doc prescribed him medicine ( inhaler ). The doc’s in-house dispensary didn’t have it in stock, or three of the other closest chemists. And my wife tells me that for people with severy allergy reactions, epipens are now difficult to get. I don’t know if epipens are problematic due to Brexit, but it does seem more than a coincidence.
Are there also issues with budget ? The fact is that hard-to-get pharma is sometimes available if you’re prepared to spend more, but the NHS will only pay above its agreed prices after a specific approval process (I can’t remember the details - I think there’s an approved list and drugs are taken on and off it as the supply levels vary). I imagine a weak pound doesn’t help with anything foreign.

I thought we were talking about prescription drugs in general.
Forgetting that I was tee-ing off at 7.15 am. Bollocks.
Black ball incoming.
Wasn’t it blowing a gale and peeing with rain where you are ? Outdoors, I mean. As opposed to snug and warm between the sheets.
There’s madness. And then there’s deliberately getting out of bed to walk around in bad weather.

It would be classified as bad weather down here in civilisation, but a lovely day up there.
I have been ordering my standard 2 month supply every 5-7 weeks for over six months. I have loads in stock, especially the really critical and unusual ones.
If I forget my pills morning or night then I have a flare up that lasts about a week. It’s not that bad, mostly annoyance, but if I went a week without drugs I would probably be hospitalised.
Ultimately, stockpiling the drugs myself is a rational thing to do, it benefits both me and the NHS. The downside of running out is very expensive.
Well you can’t do that with our doctor unless there are special circumstances, it will just be rejected.
The Levomepromazine did not get to my Pharmacist today. She says that she rang around yesterday and there is none to be found. This is a tad annoying as it means I am more or less trapped indoors/stuck close to the house until I get some. Levomepromazine is one of the best ways of suppressing the worst of the side effects and allowing me to do normal stuff like go to work or take the youngest to the park.
On the bright side I have plenty of my anti-cancer meds so there is no danger of things getting out of hand. Hopefully, this will get sorted soon though…
