Today I have mainly been V5.0 (Part 3)

I feel for you brother , I’ve done a few shifts of those m&s chrimbo nights in the past, but on lingerie mostly, where I put northern soul compos on repeat

This is my 15th and it’s just about the most shambolic single day yet and of course on 23rd which is the busiest day of the entire year.

The figures are mental - our shop, which is just food, took over £259K yesterday alone fuck knows what today will take in.

The wife says that the big M&S outside Banbridge was completely mental this morning, and the woman who thought she should go to the front of the massive queue because she “only had a trifle” got short shrift from the other punters :grinning:

I had a lady throw a wobbler today in Home Bargains when the queue wouldn’t get out of her way as she only had one thing. Huge tantrum followed by much laughter in the queue. She stormed off in complete fury to much sniggering.

Apparently she declared that she was going to get her trifle from Tesco instead, to much muttering of “aye, feck off then”.

Xmas food shopping.
Saved all my club card vouchers since March to pay for it,only to find out quite a few ran out on December 1st :disappointed:

What is a typical day’s takings (for context) ?

Given the price of an M&S turkey, I’m not surprised :joy:

On a busy Saturday probably around £30K

The price of some of the xmas stuff this year is eye watering but it doesn’t seem to be putting people off.

Thanks, Wow
Surprised a store geared up for a regular 30k a day can hold enough stock ‘out the back’ to trade nearly 10x that.

We were in one last night to pick up snacks for walking today, and a stuffed turkey crown was still £45 reduced from £85! Even though it nominally fed 9-10 that’s still minimum £8.50 per person on just the main protein, which is a huge amount.

if you don’t live within walking distance of Aubrey Allen…

They do deliver…

A bit of a tangent, but we got some wagyu samples in from Aubrey Allen when I was at Palé Hall. The sirloin in particular was clearly a “forgotten at the back of the aging cabinet” job. It wasn’t mouldy per se but it was high as a kite. I also wasn’t sold on the texture, it was so soft as to almost feel mushy, but that could just be what wagyu with that much marbling is like.

They have had some wagyu in the shop the last couple of weeks but at £149.50/kg it hasn’t quite found its way into the dinner plans.

It’s a real struggle tbh - we have four 40 foot and a 20 foot temporary fridges out the back in the yard as well as our main fridge and even then it’s a struggle but by the end of today most of it will be gone !

Never fails to amaze me just how much food we sell for the size of the shop. Last year was the first time ever the shop took over a million pounds in the seven days up to xmas - mental all for one day :exploding_head:

It is mental.

I was going to get one of the xmas prawn cocktails but it was £25 - needless to say it went back on the shelf :grinning:
