released the same year
Spooky. One of my favourite records. Occasionally sing Never The Same Again in folk clubs. Lal Waterson was a huge and quirky talent.
Bright Phoebus was originally on the Trialer label and was deleted many years ago but there was a re-release in 2017 on the Domino label
I bought a copy through a reputable record shop.
There was some sort of copyright issue though as it is blocked from sale on Discogs.
I got chatting to an elderly woman at a Richard Thompson gig at the Brighton Dome a few years ago and she saw Bright Phoebus toured live when it was originally released in 1972 she rated as the best gig she ever saw.
I have the re-release cd, and a copy of the extras cd that came out with it
Going around part of London Open Gardens.
Today was the community gardens of (quite) East London. Hoxton, Haggerston, Dalston. With a stop off in London Fields for Insta-sensation “Pockets” where they sell one thing: falafel in a pitta.
Does it eclipse the mighty Pilpel in Spitalfields and the Wharf? In a word: yes. Like Pilpel they’ve got the stream of falafel being cooked fresh, not just warmed up, but the pitta are also fresh out of the oven. Also, the weird bits of batter work.
Was it worth the faff and probably 15 minutes queuing? Not really, it was better but not night-and-day different.
Tomorrow is the posh (paid for maintenance ) gardens of the City and the Inns of Court.
Extras cd? You interest me strangely. I think my copy is on Trailer. Bright Phoebus is clearly massively influenced by Sgt. Pepper’s, but is better, possibly for constrained budget reasons.
There were 2 versions of the 2017 cd release, a single cd of BP and a double, with demos etc on the second disc.
My main copy is BP only, a friend gave me a CdR of the extras disc
Juggling with trying to finish a proposal, look after Hel, and entertain three very silly dogs.
Thank you. Will roam the arid wastes of the internet and see what’s what
Playing furniture sliding puzzle to remove an old sofa, and make room for the delivery of a new one tomorrow.
Includes emptying, moving and re stacking a 4x4 expedit unit of records.
Found all sorts of crap behind the shelves I had chucked behind them over the years.
Just as the Lopwell raffle reached its climax.
Gutted.
Didn’t miss much. A Mickey Mouse Poster (actual Mickey), some corrugated plastic used for the model railway(that went last year), back off some dismantled shelves, and a some fancy craft paper wall hanging from Paperchase.
I did find the missing fancy screw out of the lid of the Nagra pre which I dropped 18 months ago when valve rolling.
Got sent this pic which was taken last weekend at the pasta place before the pub and football so pre-messy.
Nice to catch up with John today. His take on Tuesday is Monday and that’s OK. I’m now stuffed again, the nap siren wails.
Damn. Missed out on breakfast
Taking a walk from my Airbnb in Hambridge (local am-dram doing the Archers? ). Halfway round found the Wyndham Arms in Kingsbury Episcopi unexpectedly open - would be rude not to call in. Found an impressive array of local ciders, plus scotch egg with piccalilli.
A cracking time. Good scran and excellent chat too. Lovely system in the office, definitely has me questioning a few things.
I did also pay for lunch to make up for the utter clusterfuck of my diary abuses. Not quite sure what happened there.
I think my questioning was more about 15" drivers and kick drum sounds actually kicking.
