Tools you have bought/desire

I’ve checked the depths, it’s fine

Bought an Elektra Beckum planer thicknesser today. Just a baby one, but enough to get me started.

Cordless Strimmers:
Are brushless worth more than double the price of closely similar standard motor versions? So far as I can be arsed to think about it (remarkably little), it seems potential longevity is the main argument in favour.

Don’t Dyson do digital one?

Dyson can suck the peanuts out of my shit and die screaming in great pain.

I bought a cheapish Worx one to replace a petrol one and it’s fine

Should have said, I’ve already got a few Ryobi One+ items, so having the batteries, I’m looking at that brand.

I’m only interested in brushless VS conventional motor tech.

Presumably only with a zero as well.

Have a both a normal drill and brushless, Ryobi brand cordless both. Brushless is lighter in weight seems to perform better and no brushes to wear out

I think they are generally more efficient circa 20% less energy used as well.
In all my life I have had just one garden/workshop tool motor failure.
Actual facts are difficult to find though regarding brushless motor reliability.

Nowadays I carefully try to buy tools that will just see me out then break the week after.

You have a big garden - Please look at EGO stuff.

I have just bought myself a EGO 3800 brush cutter/strimmer as I already have a 56v 7.5AH battery for my EGO mower both the strimmer and 21" mower are brilliant and really are equiv to decent petrol jobbies. Not cheap but good.
In addition to mower and Brush cutter/StrimmerI also have a EGO chainsaw, blower and hedge cutter and two batteries 2.5 and 7.5 AH. No regrets.

Thanks. I feel you should get some sort of prize for being the only person managing to stay O/T, but life’s harsh like that…

Nothing wrong with brushes and they rarely need replacing.

The only item in our house that I have ever needed to replace brushes is the washing machine and that has been twice in 10+ years (3 kids so it is always on!!)

All my hand tools are very well used and never replaced a set.

Never replaced brushes here either.

Today I have just discovered the existence of the basin wrench, so I will be able to tighten the tap that has rotated for years.

:joy::joy::joy:

I need a set of spanners. Box end, open end; ratcheting would be nice, if they are worth it.
Budget £25-£40??

At that budget I would forget ratchet spanners, they’ll be crap. Really, for that sort of money, you’re not going to get a premium brand. However, Cromwell’s own brand - Kennedy - is pretty decent mid range gear. If you can stretch your budget, these are an absolute bargain.

If that’s too expensive, I would look at second hand from eBay or the like.

Agree, you’re not going to get even half decent ratchet spanners at that price.

Tbh, the Halfords Advanced stuff is very good for the money.

If you can stretch your budget, these are top quality:
