That one feels particularly tragic because he seemed to have produced some top-class devices, and I suspect if he wanted rid he could have sold it as a perfectly valid going concern.
If I remember correctly I sold it to a chap who quickly discovered it was too big for his 1210. I’m glad it went to you eventually. It was a lovely looking arm. I haven’t seen another since in the silver finish so pretty rare I think. Looking at that photo today of the Sony with the 310 in its original plinth I do question my sanity. What was I thinking? Twat.
Garrard AT6 - part of my parents music system from my yoof which they eventually gave to me as I used it constantly.
Technics SLD 2 - Bought in 1982 and used until 88
Roksan Xerxes - bought in 88 and still in use.
NAD 533 all-in-one turntable package - my first taste of hifi in the early 90s and I thought it was the best thing ever.
Replaced by a Michell Orbe SE after about 10 years, first with Hadcock 242 then SME 312S.
Finally a Nottingham Dais, briefly with both an Anna 12” arm and the SME, now just the Anna (less obsessive about hifi than in my past life).
Anyone want to buy an SME 312S? ![]()
It was a beautiful arm in the silver and was absolutely mint. I sold it because I convinced myself that longer is better. Bought a 312S which is fine but not as pristine as the 310 was and doesn’t look as good on my deck, being black. So I’m in the Twat Club too.
Linn Axis - Akito - K9
Michell Gyrodec - OL Silver, Technoarm, SME V - MC25FL and Kontrapunkt B
(Deck later upgraded with Gert Pedersen kit)
Voyd Valdi - Helius Aureus II - ZYX R100 and Shelter 901
The Voyd - HR100S - Orpheus, Supergold DP and IO Gold
Far to many

This is still owned by me;
Since being here, it’s had a Roksan Tabriz, SME M2-9, Vertere SG-1 and SG-1HB and SME 309 arm on it which have all given way to the Audio Origami PU8. It’s had at least thirty carts attached over the course of reviewing. It now sports a Vertere mat, a wanky record weight so I can flip sides on the fly and the new Michell LEVI feet for good measure. In it’s current spec, it sounds mighty.
It replaced a Linn LP12 of which only this vaselineovision pic exists at the moment;
Akito, Valhalla, AT OC5. Actually sounded very good. Before that was a Pro-Ject Debut which existed in a world before phone cameras.
In (I think) 2013, the AVID arrived.
It turned up for review and was sufficiently good at test work, I bought it and it’s never left. Since it arrived the sub platter, platter and PSU have been changed and it’s had various arms on it. It’s currently off the rack because it doesn’t fit (no space for said PSU) and because it needs the 309 which came off the Gyro fitting.
Then the Planar 10 arrived;
This turned up for review and, for reasons I can only put down to a long lunch somewhere, Rega said ‘well, you might as well hang on to it.’ It currently lives upstairs with an Nd9 MM cart on it.
Then, the Vertere appeared;
I did actually pay money for this one. It arrived for a long Christmas review in 2021 and I realised I couldn’t let it go. The spec varies depending on what Touraj has felt like sending over but it’s unreasonably capable in any form. The idea was once I’d bought it, I’d sell the Gyro but that felt like shooting a family pet in the face so I kept both.
Also, for long and complicated reasons, I have an Audio Technica LP5 with a Rega arm in a box upstairs;
I did buy a second LP12 with Armageddon in 2018 because I wanted to make a flat earth turbobastard with Aro but minor details like getting divorced and moving into a granny annexe meant it was sold without ever leaving the box. I will buy another one day; perhaps when @thebiglebowski, decides that one isn’t for him in the next 2-3 months
.
Obviously, for review, since 2012, I think I’ve had somewhere between 70-90 other TTs come through for testing but that’s different.
Pioneer PL-12D - early teens
Revolver Rebel - late teens/Uni - AT95E - currently used by FOL#3
Voyd Valdi - post Uni until it got nicked - Helius Scorpio - Goldring Eroica, Audio Note Soara

Voyd Reference - about the past 12 years or so - Audio Note AN1-S, WB Act 0.5, FR-64fx, AN Arm 1-3 mk2, FR-64s, Korf TA-SF9 - Ortofon MC70 Anni
That 0.5 Reference looks familiar ![]()
He lived just a few miles away from me and I met him a few times and he always seemed like a genuinely good bloke but I think things started taking off faster than he could manage. I vaguely remember from one conversation that he had reached the point of having to consider employing people and possibly premises to keep up with the demand mainly from Asia due to them wanting goods supplied in weeks and not months. I’m guessing it all just got too much although there is probably more to it than that. As we all know not all designers are good with the sales aspect of things. Anyway a shame as they were lovely turntables.
Thankfully you are no Kristi Noem.
Lovely finish on the Reference, Simon.
Still enjoying the Clearaudio bud! ![]()
