Putting a word into inverted commas makes its meaning anything you want it to be - which is handy if you’re too lazy and illiterate to find the correct word…
Very nice!
OK. Brilliant picture. What breed is it?
Thanks. It’s a snow bunting - It was just 1 km from my home
very un fluttered by dogs passing within two feet of it and has been there for a week. The light was a bit contrasty I might return tomorrow - With a smaller lens that focuses closer.
Rubbish zoomed phone photo while trying not to scare it off but we have a new visitor to our garden, it appears.
Which one?
We have had redwings before (not last year as presumably the mild winter meant they didn’t need to go into gardens but in previous years), but we haven’t seen a fieldfare in our garden before.
It has been a fairly modest winter for both species here.
Redwings on passage were in the high hundreds, rather than the (several) thousands that we often get.
Fieldfare numbers were also down on recent years although they’re never as numerous as the Redwings.
Whilst I was photographing the local Snow Bunting today a man from BBC Winterwatch arrived to watch me watching the bird. On winterwatch this week If you see an old bloke with a Paramo jacket with a NIKWAX label on back it’s me.
That little kingfisher is lush.
And, somehow, looks cold. Great photo.
They showed some footage of a pair of peregrines up on a harbourfront(ish) building that looked very similar to the place you’re renting. If you see a camera crew again, nip out and tell Michaela Strachen to fuck right off willya Andy? Ta
I saw about the peregrines on the program - Will try and find out
exactly where. The cameraman I spoke to shot the night images - He was called Mike - Not sure his surname but hoping that it’s Hunt.
Mike Strel would probably trigger less complaints to BBC Winterwatch
Amazing photos by the way
Bloody lovely work Andy, and I will never tire of that gorgeous little bunting!
