Twitchers Revisited

Thanks - re the Snow Bunting it was actually shown on Winterwatch tonight. In fact they showed me as well -trying to stand up after photographing the bird.

Brilliant! I’ll look forward to that as we’re a day behind with WW :ok_hand:

Love the beach hut shot too

Some lovely shots there Andy - the Snow Buntings are great. Can’t remember, where are these shot roughly?

Lovely x They are in situ near to me on the Kent coast - I’ll see if I can get out this week and see any.

Did the RSPB garden watch today Your Birdwatch results

I saw about 18 different species but strangely the submission only allows about 10 and focuses on the ‘most common garden birds’ - this doesn’t seem very scientific to me and would bias results as well as miss out on less common species. Anyway it was very interesting focusing for an hour on one spot - I saw more than I expected, even a single Redwing showed up.

We saw exactly nothing - high winds, rain, gloom. Annoying, because earlier on there was a kestrel watching for voles. as well as the usual stuff pottering-about

We had a slightly wider range of mundanity (2 starlings) than previous years but less sparrows (8).

Two redwings have still been hanging about even when their normal food tree has been stripped, and have actually gone down to the ground to look for food unlike previous visits.

8 sparrows, 6 pigeons, 2 blackbirds and a robin.

It’s been pissing it down and strong winds.

For the record;
8 Chaffinches (my local flock)
Greater spotted woodpecker
Long tailed, Greater and Blue Tits
Collared Dove
Jackdaw
Blackbirds
Song Thrush
Redwing
Robin
Stock dove
Wood pigeon
Rook
Magpie
Starling

Hmm 16 not 18 but pretty good haul - to be fair weather was fine, just ahead of the storm blowing in. No sparrows interestingly, had loads last year but the Chaffinches seem to have taken over.

Just had this chap pecking around on our lawn. Not sure what it is…woodpecker maybe?

Yep. We sometimes get them on our back lawn which is riddled with ants nests so as far as Mr. Yaffle is concerned it’s an all you can eat buffet.
