What I'm watching (Series 2)

With daughter no.1,had to warn her raunchy sex scene coming up which I had completely forgotten about. First watched it when I was about 10 and it scared the shit out of me and has remained an absolute favourite ever since. A brilliant film.

Saw it in 1973 as a double bill with The Wicker Man for warm-up. Came out of the cinema shaking!

That’s some double bill :ok_hand:

It’s an atmospheric masterpiece.

Yep, that’s how they went out on first release. It was a good summer for films, Zardoz a bit later.

In the late 70s (maybe 1980) when to my mind in those days there was nothing to do on Sunday between the pub closing at 2pm and opening again at 7.00pm We occasionally spent the afternoon in the cinema.
I remember one double bill of Midnight Express and Taxi Driver

It’s a shitty afternoon, so I’m trying decide from a shortlist of

The Dirty Dozen
Zero Dark Thirty
Interstellar
A Bridge Too Far

Apologies if that’s a bit of an unwanted insight into the workings of my mind.

Why choose? I should get sufficient pizza and booze in to allow you to watch them all.

The wife is working and then going out with her sisters, so I do have about 8 straight hours of vegetating lined up.

With a short break for an M&S microwave curry.

Good call. It is a complete load of Sherman.

Horror to go with horror then.

Finished Season 3 of Dark. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole lot. Got any more recommendations anyone?

Early hallowe’en treat.

The (Swedish IIRC?) original is a work of art.

I agree. I’ve never seen the US remake. They say that as remakes go it’s really pretty good. But it’d have to be very good indeed to match the original. It’s not really a horror movie. It’s a coming-of-age movie with a vampire in it.

The special features on the DVD include quite a long interview with the director, in which he laughs a fair bit. At one point the interviewer asks him what the film’s message is. He says something like (slight spoiler) ā€œHmmm. Maybe, ā€˜Be nice to people’. Because you never know if they might have a centuries-old supernatural friend with terrible powers and a very bad anger management problem.ā€

Different, not as complex , but well worth watching.

If you haven’t seen it and can’t easily stream it then I’ve just found out that it’s on free-to-air TV tonight - five past midnight, BBC2.
