What I'm watching (Series 2)

Dune at the IMAX in Plymouth. Enjoyed it. Apart from an IMAX demo thing about 20 years ago I’d never seen a proper film at one. A worthwhile extra dimension.

The IMAX thing really let’s the spectacle flow out I think :+1:

First two episodes of Designated Survivor. Won’t be watching any more. Too cheesy.

Lol, it goes full unpasteurised Brie later on.

Tried the children of Dune, that was fucking dire.

Monster’s Ball on the other hand was excellent.

It’s so good that we have one in Plymouth now. 3rd largest screen in the UK.

Dialog is so quiet it can barely be heard and the music is stupidly loud. Not sure why they have done that but it makes it unwatchable.

ISTR that the music and some of the non-verbal sounds can be distributed differently from the speech across a 5.1 system. I wonder if there’s any opportunity for selectively raising the speech relative to everything else by altering the level on just one or a few speakers ?

I don’t have a 5.1 system. Everything else on netflix and the TV is fine so it’s just this film.

I’m pretty sure that saw that in the cinema. Everyone was moaning about the sound mix on the way out. I gave up on trying to follow it closely and just watched along in a semi-doze. It was shite.

Yeah even going from struggling to hear and the windows being blown out realised it’s shite and switched it off after 20 mins.

Yeah, I wasn’t suggesting the film was OK, just that there might be a way to fix their mistake to some extent.

It is an egregiously annoying film. You can’t watch it and can’t even sleep though it for massively noisy gunfire.

Thought this was worth a watch

Just back from Dune with both FoLs. FoL#1 only went because she fancies the lad who plays Paul Atreides… but ended up really enjoying it for the story.

It’s been long enough since I read the books that I can’t tell how much they’ve left out, but it seemed pretty faithful to me, I liked it a lot.

The soundtrack is epic too, would be amazing on a bass monster system!

Britain’s best woodworker on C4.

A collection of the most irritating, charmless cunts on television.

Hmmm commercial opportunities for a live web stream at lopwell?

Been trying to watch Prof Cox’s new Universe series, probably just me but I’m finding his philosophical ramblings on hilly idols so irritating I’ve abandoned it. Binge watched series 2 of Guilt and as @murrayjohnson commented it’s brilliant, even better than the first series.
