What I'm watching (Series 2)

Lopwellcam :+1::flushed:

Tragedy, comedy, gastronomy and capes. Sadly the baited hooks of ā€˜Sex’ and celebrity aren’t on offer but if Kiki Dee could be convinced to attend it could be a blockbuster.

Same here with regards Universe - a load of self indulgent wank.

I got some way through the first one and half contemplated writing down what he said (I’d have had more than enough time). The plan was to read it out without the loooooooong gaps and post the result as a 10-minute Youtube vid for folks who might want to learn a bit about stars. But then I fell asleep.

I’ve enjoyed most of his previous programs but this was really bad - whimsical pish masquerading as science and with the most overbearing music as well.

I long for a return to the days of James Burke.

I agree, I found it poor. The same subject matter was covered far better by Prof Jim Al-Khalili. He explained the science in a clear, concise and entertaining way without have to rely on wistful looks, monotonous crescendo music and a gushing narrative.

Down to the final 4 on Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK. This vapid tsunami will probably kill off my last brain cell next week. I may never find out who wins… Fuck you cruel world.

He’s done some excellent talks, e.g. this short one on the double slit experiment:

I loved it. I’m mystified by the people not into it, complaining it’s too slow etc. Four of us went, and at the end we all let out sighs, and un-clenched our fists from the chairs. Really enjoyed it. I think he’s nailed the style and atmosphere so well. Loved the soundtrack… don’t know why people are wingeing about that either. If anything bugged me, it was that I thought what’s-his-face who plays Paul, was a bit one-dimensional. But not a deal-breaker, I’m guessing he’s some teen heart-throb, but he’s also a young actor, who’ll hopefully grow into the role, and he certainly wasn’t awful, just a bit wooden, and perhaps over-pouting.
Speaking of heart-throbs, flippin eck, I’ve seen Rebecca Ferguson in a few things recently, and my God she’s beguilingly gorgeous!

What did properly bug me was - WTF happened to the IMAX 3D version? So it’s in IMAX, but in 2D, or you can see it in a 3D post-render, in 4DX. That’s fucking messy, and a waste not to have that in 3D on IMAX. From the opening scene, it was begging to be in 3D. The 3D rendering in Bladerunner 2049, was sublime, and in no way compromised the film. Slight disappoint.

Realistically I’m going back for a second viewing fairly soon.

Cox has to get a series out per year.
The easy way to keep doing popular science is with generalisations and pretty pictures.

We need Cunc investigates Astronomy!
I would watch that :grinning:

Noticed that just went up today - Looking forward to that

Just finished Y The Last Man season 1. Really enjoyed it.

Downloaded for future viewing. I have only seen the trailer.

First thing that sprang to mind was what are the chances the last remaining bloke on earth turned out to be an incredibly good looking hottie?

Well, yes. You can throw quite a few ā€œwhat are the chances?ā€ questions at it, to be honest! But still, it’s very enjoyable.

I have nothing left but to cynically pick holes in harmless TV escapism.

NOTHING.

Station Eleven looks like it might be worth a blast. Because you can’t have enough post-apocalyptic pandemic action.

Starts next month.

This is exactly what I have concluded.

Saw them at the Powerhaus in Islington supporting Bolt Thrower and Napalm Death. Decent gig.
