What I'm watching (Series 2)

Well if my slap dash maths are close, that is about 8 ft per sec.

70mm width, 24 frames per second. I make it about 5.5ft per second, probably a bit more for the gaps between the frames. It’s quite something to see one in action.

Does that carry the soundtrack as well, or is it on another medium, and synced?

I think it was on CDs and synced.

How did you get to see that?

Exactly how far you will need to bury your head in the sand to avoid the hype surrounding it.

MOSI in Tampa had an IMAX dome, and the projection system was behind a glass wall so you could see it running.

80 Lbs cameras too. I’m sure @coco could improve this.

I sincerely hope this is our next reel-to-reel fad.

Mission Impossible in IMAX.

A couple of good set piece moments but some of the chase, fight & car chase scenes are long to the point of becoming tedious. Portentous music generally too loud. Somewhat po faced, no real lightness or humour and Cruise is a terrible actor in this. The basic premise about an AI gone rogue is also a bit weak.

Watched this today too. Expectations are set of shin height for this kind of thing but this one misses the mark in even the basic areas. The main protagonist Gabriel just didn’t pull of menacing / evil very well. This is down to casting rather than script. The continuous ‘peril’ facing the pint sized Thatanite & co seemed to have lost a little edge? I did enjoy a ripping nap afterwards, so points for that. 6.9/10

Cineworld 1520 showing?

Lil Tom is starting to look like a chunky 50 something who we’re expected to believe can sprint hard for half a mile then not be breathless when he arrives. Unlikely.

2pm Yesmovies Office showing

Trailers for Oppenheimer and Dune2 looked good as well as a Star Wars Rogue? film (don’t really follow this franchise but looked impressive) and particularly some new Scorsese film* about native Americans and the birth of the oil industry with De Niro and Leo DiCaprio.

*Killers of the Flower Moon

Enjoyed that. Part Ozark, part Banshee not as good as either but looking forward to Season 2

‘Big Mick’ is probably the best comedy TV character out of the UK in the least 5 years.
