Twaddle, but Uma Thurman & S.L J keep it viewable. Pre nap points 6.8/10
She was awful in it.
The level of overacting was excruciating all round.
She’s always been OTT, but I take your point.
Matt’s baseline score is 6.799 recurring/10
Caution advised.
Think there is a 3rd series of that in the pipeline. We liked it.
Think I have the book somewhere.
Rewatching the ancient James Burke series Connections on YouTube.
This blew my mind when I watched it as a teenager. Nice to revisit and a reminder of how great TV actually can be
Over the years, I’ve avoided programmes about Peter Sutcliffe and his crimes, particularly drama/re-enactments. That period, the police’s response to it and the subsequent public enquiry were fairly well covered by the media. But I’d read that The Long Shadow (ITV) took a different approach focussing more on the effect it had on survivors and the families of victims and less on Sutcliffe with no violence shown. It’s still a gripping tale that fully describes the jaw dropping incompetence of the police response to the attacks while making it clear that in coming just before widespread computerised databases and alongside the misogyny and racism in both the police (and society) it was always going to be a difficult case to crack.
The only good thing that came from it was that afterwards, how such cases were handled had to change and it did.
But this is an excellent programme, well worth the time with some great performances from the likes of Toby Jones, Daniel Mays, David Morrissey and many others. The look of it all (1975-81) is spot on aswell.
Yep my thoughts too. The production matched the feel of the screenplay and the acting performances were gentle and understated.
Watched ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ on DVD last night - what a load of crap!
…And yet I rather enjoyed it! Even the low-res format suited its (possibly unintended) period feel.
Is this how senility starts?
It’s mental how Russell Crowe is doing this kind of thing now
Season 5 of Fargo is up to a very high bar for the first two episodes.
Juno Temple knocking it out of the park as a diminutive tiger hiding in plain sight, as an innocuous & seemingly docile housewife in hiding from a brutal past. Plenty of McGuyver like ingenuity in using everyday objects at hand to escape peril.
Rollicking good fun. Good turn by Jon Hamm too.
Streaming on Amacuntz Prime video. First two eps available now, one more each subsequent week I think.
He’s gone full Nicolas Cage
TBF he carried the weighty burden well, somewhat tongue-in-cheek without being arch. Wanted to hate him; didn’t.
Biggest surprise to Me - Mr Didn’t-Google-Beforehand - was that it is (in the broadest possible sense), a true story based on the memoirs of a real person.
I liked the Pope’s Exorcist - Crowe was hamming it up quite nicely. Same as in the latest Thor movie playing a very camp Zeus.
I think he just doesn’t give a shit any more.
A Classic Guy.
Coincidently I also I have this rollicking jobbie with James Coburn ready to roll shortly. >>
AKA as “Duck, you sucker!”
A very long time since I’ve seen this.
Again with a heck of a supporting cast who I had completely forgotten. John Goodman, James Gandolfini, Donald Sutherland etc.
Denzel is searching for clues on AOL which kind of nails how old it is.
Having finished all 6 series of the excellent Americans our new spy drama is the quirky Slow Horses with Gary Oldman playing a meatman. 3 episodes in & very good so far.
It’s very good. Can’t wait for the new series to air in a few days.
