Slow Horses is excellent
One for the footballists?
I got 6 months free Apple TV when I bought my new telly.
Apart from Slow Horses and Black Bird what else is worth lining up to watch on it?
Ted Lasso
For all Mankind (Season 1 brilliant, goes downhill from there)
Foundation (S2 grinds a bit for the first half then properly takes off)
Severance (Very weird, but I loved it)
Silo (Brilliant)
The Crowded Room
It will melt your brain.
Series after series it’s even more brain fucking as it goes on.
It goes rapidly downhill too.
Some surreal series need to quit while ahead. The more you add the more you stretch the credibility of the plot (maybe I should say try to replace mystery with plot and make it worse for the effort).
The end is pants. Not that I could have come up with anything better!
I seem to watch this every ten years or so. This weeks pre nap installments have been an hour or so a day. (It’s a long thing) Perhaps it’s because this film poses more questions than answers I’ve found it great to re watch each time. The film is genuinely layered.
It’s challenging to watch someone you’re rooting for do some truly awful things and painful to watch their suffering. It’s difficult to imagine the feelings of betrayal and sadder still to watch friendships warp under ambition and greed.
The film score is close to perfection and that’s saying something for pan pipes. The adage ‘hurt people hurt people’ is played out in so many films but here it’s illustrated so clearly, the dysfunction of it all captured so well. I know a lot of people don’t like this film but those that do tend to love it.
Definitely a favourite.
For years I had a totally legit (no sarcasm) CD that had clearly been ripped from a (scratched) LP.
Eventually replaced it with something a lot better.
I love getting totally absorbed in a very long film - it’s a great thing if you’re in the right fram of mind.
I’m trying to decided if it’s time to give this an airing on Saturday as Anne is away for the weekend and I’ll have peace to watch it uninterrupted.
If you think Once Upon A Time In America is long - think again. This version clocks in at 301 minutes - there was a longer version I think
Here’s an idea, let’s make a film where we show the ending in the first scene?
It’ll never work…
but we’ll give it a go
Watched it many times but it’s an absolute classic.
I love Edward G. Robinson not enough love for him these days.
Made a big fuck-off pot of Dhal Tarka and had a couple of friends over for this -
Not watched it in 30 years - still love it!
Sam had never seen it!
It’s that perfect ratio of film & music - like the Leone / Morricone films.
Good point well made Al - just exactly that
As with many films at the time I have to thank the old Moviedrome film series on BBC 2 for introducing me to this film.
