Really been enjoying this series, Neville is excellent

Watched this last night after @crimsondonkey mentioning it further up the thread. Really enjoyed it.
Cheers Wayne
Itās not to be taken seriously but it is a fun brain off type thing.
Watching Station Eleven.
Seems to be a documentary about Covid.
Must re-read the book. I recall it being a bit grim.
Finished Get Back. Very impressed with the story theyāve put together out of all that footage they shot. I like the transition from the interpersonal discomfort and tetchiness / shenanigans of the first Ep, to the appearance of the real John Lennon in the second and third.
Also seeing Billy Prestonās playing and influence in the room was a treat in itself.
Tees up the finale nicely with just an off screen cameo of Allan Klein and the shit show that was to follow.
Just finished 100 Foot Wave - although I donāt have a huge interest in surfing, I still found this an interesting watch, and actually quite relaxing with lots of great footage of huge rolling waves.
Also, whenever I see programmes about extreme sports athletes, it always leaves a melancholy taste for me. I feel like for a lot of these athletes its really an addiction - they become obsessed by the sport and it takes over their life. I got that feeling a little bit with McNamara here. Anyway, good watch, and more interesting than you might think.
Over the last 2-3 nights weāve watched Summer of Soul followed by What happened, Miss Simone?
Both are interesting & enjoyable to watch. the light & colour of SoS are something to behold. I realise that the back story about lost archive footage lying unseen for 50 years isnāt strictly accurate but itās well worth watching just to see the array of artists captured in what mustāve been a fantastic summer to be there.
It did prompt me to watch the Nina Simone documentary as I hadnāt realised quite what an activist she was or that itād been that which had so dampened what could have been a far more glorious career. For some reason Iād assumed it was drug problems. She was a remarkable talent.
Are they easily accessible to watch?
Iāve a copy of SoS on a memory stick, the Nina Simone is on Netflix.
Nice to see at the Harlem Festival the speakers used around the venue appear to have been Altec VOTTs. Mustāve been quite decent if set up well.
Questlove did a great job of producing a watchable documentary from all that footage. Some if not all the performances are just fab but have a particular soft spot for Nina and Stevie Wonder.
She made a conscious choice between what she believed vs playing the game for her career, ending up in almost obscurity. Can you imagine going to one of those chaotic Paris gigs not knowing which Nina you were going to get that night!
Plenty of artists have had that reputation but not always for the same reason.
Ryan Adams in his early career , was he going to be so pissed he couldnāt play?
Van Morrison in all of his career, was he just going to be a massive cunt?
Except I canāt ever imagine even wanting to go to one of their gigs
Van Morrison, on a good day, was fantastic.
That New York mayor was an impressive figure who was obviously liked enough for the city not to explode (despite Ninaās best efforts) I also liked the MC who kept appearing in different dazzling outfits. Proper showman.
Ad Astra.
Itās free on Amazon.
It started out quite mournful and contemplative.
Then they kept chucking in random action set pieces.
Now itās gone full WTF James Bond in space.
@coco 's favourite film
I thought it was the one with Sandra Bullock.
Sheās really hot.
