The Ballad of Wallis Island
A folk duo are invited to a remote island to play a gig.
A lovely film this: gentle, funny & sad. All kinds of complications between the duo and unexpected motivations behind the booking. Nice music too. Recommended.

Amazing cast, glorious visuals, somewhat bonkers - very Wes Anderson.
If youâre a fan of Wes Anderson youâll love it. If not, probably not.
Mobland Finale - With so many plates spinning it was always going to be hard to resolve things with complete satisfaction. The loose threads set up well for Season 2 which may well happen as itâs been biggest hit Paramount+ has had. The trajectory seems ever more fantastical which was a gripe Episodes 1-4 being gritty and loosely realistic but things went into lala land which felt like theyâd got another writer in, accepting the shift, the pace and characters in the lartter episodes were able to pedal through some absurdity towards (bitching asside) probably the best thing Iâve seen in a long time.
Watched this last night:
I think it was trying to be a bit brooding and arty, but it just ended up being very dull, and the two main chaps in it seemed to have a very odd friendship indeed. Could have comfortably been condensed down to an hour I think, but instead runs to just over 2!
Is it this one ?
Sometimes reckoned to be the toughest walk in the UK. The guy who came up with it and did it in 2004 has a Roll of Honour on the website for people who complete it after he did. So far his is the only name on it.
Itâs not far off, but itâs not the same. They start by doing the West Highland Way, which runs between Milngavie and Fort William, so itâs a pretty similar length, they just started further east really.
Youâve probably seen Edie, but if you havenât then, well, I enjoyed it, though it did require a bit of âsuspension of disbeliefâ. That said Sheila Hancock, bless her, did actually climb Suilven during the making of the film. At the age of 83.
Just settling down for a nostalgia night on BBC4 - Spartacus. However all I can see is Kirk Douglas and the dimple on his chin, it looks like an anus and the more I watch I find myself looking at the arsehole on his chin. This is ruining my night.
Iâm Spartanus
Iâm Spartacus, without an anus on my chin.
Quite right. Fuck you bumchindouglas
The guy was a fucking arsehole.
Iâm watching the trump v musk meltdown: 100/10 would recommend
â------------------and Olivier has a builders crack on his chin.
Department Q on Netflix - Excellent
Yep nearly finished that and itâs been pretty good so far.
One of my favourite music documentaries is repeated at 4am on sky arts.
Four part series covering most aspects of British music from photography to the managers since the 60s.
Did have it saved, but lost it years ago when my sky box died.
Re-watching this.
Beautiful visuals, great cast with an interesting premise, albeit not that original. Also plot holes you could drive cars through and missed opportunities.
Still a decent watch, though.
