What I'm watching (Series 2)

One of my early memories (mid 60s) was going to see my Aunt and cousins who lived in Benfield Street in Battersea.
You could smell Battersea as you got off the train at Clapham Junction, mainly due to Price’s Candle factory
It ws basically a slum, they had a couple of rooms in a big house, can’t remember if they had their own kitchen but do remember there was one outside loo for all the families living there and I distinctly remember the torn up pages of the Daily Mirror which was the only loo paper available.

The whole area was knocked down (Benfield St no longer exists)and my relatives moved to a council owned 3 bed maisonette in Trott St, close to a lot of high rise blocks.
I remember it had a communal hot air heating system through the block.
Battersea was still very much a working class area at that time.
Then came right to buy and they were bought up and individual radiator systems put in.

I just checked online and a 3 bed maisonette in the same block went for £650K!

Prisoner 951 …BBC iPlayer

New Sisu film. As daft as the first one so very entertaining.

I was amused by the trailers today. I presume they were being run to appeal to a Sisu type audience but two were for the crappiest looking, low budget horror films. One about a serial killer dressed as Santa, the other about some kind of amusement park whose mechatronic figures go rogue. Again lots of brutal killing. Then the Avatar 3 trailer which seemed jarring & quite martial (tribes going to war) followed by a rough looking new prison based drama. All this followed by a Cineworld ad pushing how the cinema chain can improve the karma of the whole family. Not watching films like those it won’t.

This was showing at the cinema tonight, couldn’t muster up the energy to go back out again so watching it at home. Forgot how good it is. Should’ve gone to watch it.

A visit to the local arts centre for a National Theatre live stream of The 5th Step.

Martin Freeman & Jack Lowden in a very funny play about an AA attendee and his sponsor. Thankfully I’ve no personal experience of this so it’s quite informative about the relationship, guidance and possible consequences and incredibly well performed by both of them. Gripping modern theatre beamed to us proles in the provinces. Recommended, even I’m sure for those who’ve been through it

We’re going theatrical this weekend too.

No idea. It’s Irish apparently so it’s me plus “when shall we three meet again”.

Was it just the one screening ?

Gave up half way through s2 but thought I’d try again. Watched the rest of s2 and the first 3 episodes of s3 before giving up (again)

Throwing the books out the window and ignoring them it’s still all over the place and not very well written or constructed.

At the Wharf yes, I’d have to look and see if anywhere else locally is showing it.

It’s on at Vue Plymouth on Saturday at 1830.

And at Cineworld & Vue on Sunday, so I guess also across the country. Well worth seeing if you can, just don’t take an elderly aunt.

Thanks Guy . Will try and get to see it.

Apparently we’re going to see this tomorrow.

I’m on a big “just doing what I’m told” tip at the moment.

All the Jimmys

I kinda liked the bravery to try something different. And it’s a halfway mark in many respects - there’s another on the way I think.

Premiere now on
