Aye, this was bad.

Think I was a little more blunt about it. Not super at all.

People having a shit time in the snow.

Despite the winter setting, it really put me in mind of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian.

Not read it, but it seems I should!

Storyville - speechless

A 2 part documentary exploring the history and modern day impact of fee speech. Looking at it’s roots in the US 1960s protest movement up to its emergence as critical social justice. It explores all aspects, including the impact of gender and the current war in the middle East. A fascinating programme.. if you though you knew DE&I, think again.

It makes no judgement throughout, speaking to people from all sides. The maker draws only one conclusion, i found myself agreeing with it.

Recommended.

FInally got around to finishing Stranger Things and What. An. Ending.

That is how you do a dénoument not looking at you LOTR but I am looking at you.

Bravo, superbly done.

Fascinated that you pick out LOTR for that rather than Game of Thrones!

Possibly for a number of reasons - I have only seen GoT once and am slowly winding my way back through it. I did not share the righteous fury of the the majority over the final season, or final episode (perhaps I will on repeat viewing).

But moreso than that the final episode of ST followed a similar arc to Return of The King with a 45m-1hr minute wrap up after the main action finale. I found this portion of RotK interminable. I didn’t care about anyone or anything and whether this was poor direction or editing is moot. ST on the other hand almost had me in tears at several scenes during the same dĂ©noument.

I think you can stream this on C4 for free?

Very good and what a beautifully understated final scene.

Another fine & unsettling Mark Jenkin film, set in Cornwall, about a lost, small trawler that reappears in its now run down port some 32 years later.

A local crew take her out again & return, with their catch, to the village where it’s now 1993. Much has changed.

Jenkin films all of this on old stock, beautiful 16mm film with a hand cranked camera.

It’s a great watch. Lovely use of colour & sound and interesting observations of what’s different 32 years on.

If you can look past Sheridan’s questionable choice to have facial fillers, the set up of the story is promising

nope, switched channels after 15mins of that, her permament trout pout was too annoying

We enjoyed episode 1 and going to watch episode 2 tonight.

The first episode does have 1 New Order, 2 The The and 1 Depeche Mode classic in it. So worth it for that alone.
